This July, join us in committing to one less plastic! We're encouraging you to swap out one single-use plastic item (like a water bottle or grocery bag) for something reusable. Did you know these bites were most likely made by turtles? 🐢 Join us in making a small, simple change that will move us toward a more sustainable future and a healthier Bay for all. 🌊 On July 27, we’ll also be teaming up with Greens Bayou Coalition and other Houston-area organizations to host a community cleanup at two sites - Brock Adventure Park and Brock Park Baseball Field. Register for the cleanup at https://lnkd.in/gxW2jq7U then #PledgeOneLessPlastic at https://lnkd.in/gEhVJc-K #Sustainability #ProtectTheBay

Today, Earth Day 2024, the League to Save Lake Tahoe stands proudly behind the groundbreaking single-use plastic water bottle ban in South Lake Tahoe and Truckee—a significant step in our ongoing mission to protect and preserve our beloved Lake. This transformative policy wasn't an overnight accomplishment; it is the fruit of a decade's worth of litter data collection, community engagement, and science-led initiatives. The League's approach has always been data-driven. From 2014 to 2023, through countless cleanup events, our volunteers have gathered substantial evidence of the plastic problem in the Basin, collecting over 20,100 plastic bottles, 31,300 plastic caps, and 163,800 pieces of unidentifiable plastic debris. Armed with this compelling data, we have raised awareness and crafted a narrative that spurred action and policy change. The League prepared for this transition by focusing on education and readiness. Our incredible Community Engagement team hit the streets, ensuring residents, visitors, and commercial vendors were prepared for the switch. Their hard work encouraged the adoption of sustainable alternatives and amplified the League's message that small changes in our daily habits can have a profound impact on our environment. Let's raise a glass (of clear and delicious Tahoe tap water) and join us in celebrating this pivotal movement. Support the cause, spread the word, and embrace the alternatives. #EarthDay2024 #PlasticFreeTahoe #DataDrivenChange #EnvironmentalEducation #KeepTahoeBlue #TahoevsPlastics

Cigarette ends, followed by drinks lids and food wrappers, were the most common items of plastic litter discovered during a two-week river clean-up campaign. Plasticblitz is an annual campaign organised by environmental charity Thames21. It sees community groups, Environment Agency staff and other volunteers take part in a mass litter pick along England’s waterways. Over two weeks this summer, 585 volunteers cleared around 58km of river and 699 bags of rubbish were collected. Of that, 71% was plastic. Cigarette butts are believed to be the number one most littered single-use plastic item in the world. But according to new recycling charity ReAP even cigarette butts can be recycled and turned into useful items like benches and birdboxes. Together with our partners and clients we aim to make it easier for everyone to deposit their litter cleanly and safely to boost recycling rates by eliminating contamination. Get in touch to find out more about our recycling bin and cigarette bin options. #Recycling #PlasticPollution #Sustainability #LitterPick #Environment

Every piece of trash carelessly discarded poses a grave threat to all the species; it contaminates water, is ingested by wildlife, pollutes the environment and affects the climate. Recognizing the urgent need for action, #HCLTechCanada volunteers, in partnership with A Greener Future, undertook a mission to clean up the shoreline at Jack Darling Memorial Park, Mississauga. We cleaned the shores, picking up litter and other pollutants to safeguard and support local marine life and ecosystems. 🐟🌱 Here are some numbers that reflect our collective effort: 👉 36 volunteers, dedicated 72 volunteer hours, collected 3,020 pieces of litter, including cigarette butts, plastic pieces, food wrappers, plastic and metal bottle caps, paper pieces and hygiene items. Impact: ✅ Cigarette butts we collected helped protect 703K liters of water from contamination. ✅ Plastic pieces we collected prevent 6.6 pounds of plastic from being ingested by wildlife. ✅ Food wrappers we collected divert 7.6 pounds of plastic waste from Lake Ontario. Thanks to our volunteers and #AGreenerFuture for organizing and supporting this initiative. Let's make a difference one piece at a time and build a sustainable environment. #SuperchargingProgress #CSRatHCLTech

This was a really interesting day of discussions about the use of plastics in forestry, recycling, and the new plastic alternatives coming onto the market. The Forest Plastic Working Group has some great info on their webpage, including a jargon busting section - when you're looking for plastic alternatives be aware that 'biodegradable' doesn't mean the same as 'compostable', and 'compostable' doesn't mean you can put it on your home compost! There is a growing market for environmentally friendly products (not just in forestry) and a lot of green washing associated with it, so make sure you do your research before blindly following the latest trend. If you do have a load of tree guards that need recycling, check out the Tubex recycling hub in the link below 👇 Remember... reduce, reuse, recycle 🙂
Yesterday we were at the launch of the new plastic tree guard recycling hub in #Essex with Essex Wildlife Trust, Tubex Tree Shelters, Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust and Forest Plastics Working Group. We had a great day sharing information about plastics in woodland creation, tree guards, and the recycling process. Our #EarthDay appeal with Big Give is now live! 🎉 Meaning every pound we receive over the next week, will be matched at no extra cost to you. https://lnkd.in/eaRECQkF Our rivers are crisis! Our reliance on single-use plastics is adding unnecessary strain to these already struggling ecosystems, with a shocking 80% of the ocean’s plastic pollution travelling via our rivers 😲 Now more than ever, we need your help to continue our vital campaigning work to help keep our rivers and oceans plastic-free. Recent Marine Conservation Society beach clean data shows more than 480,000 items of litter found on UK beaches - with drinks-related litter one of the most found! By donating to our Earth Day appeal, YOU can do something about this. For ONE WEEK ONLY, every pound will be matched – so your £25 becomes £50 to go towards powering our campaigns like Refill to help keep our rivers and oceans plastic-free.

We did it! My dog Dozy and I picked up our 100th bag of trash (mostly plastic) out of our neighborhood and out of the environment. We started on April 1st. April is Earth month. Our initial goal was to pick up one bag of trash a day for the whole month. We quickly hit 30 bags in 19 days and we just kept going. I began to look forward to my time outside bonding with my dog, meeting neighbors, inspiring people to do the same. I feel much more connected to my community. I can go down so many blocks now in my area and people smile and wave to me because they know I'm "that" guy. The friendly guy who shows up every single day with his dog to make all of their neighborhood a better place to live. What I learned most about this experience is one person can certainly make a difference but if you want to make sweeping change there is more power in organizing. Phase two of my project will be to reach out to community leaders, schools, churches, and politicians to help. Stay tuned to see what phase two brings but I'm proud to say 100 bags of trash are no longer scattered around my community. This plastic will not end up in our rivers, lakes or oceans. Environmental activism can be this simple. We must tackle plastic pollution and so many other environmental issues together. Time is running out but it's certainly not too late. #environmentaleducation #climateaction #givingback #plasticpollution #wildlifeconservation

2024 is here For the holidays, I went to Sea Turtle Inc. on South Padre Island. In the picture, you can see a whale tail made fully out of plastic bottles(200). Trivia: In the time it took you to read this message, over 10,000 bottles were discarded all over the world. In addition, so many things that can’t be recycled should not go into the trash either. These are things such as regular batteries, light bulbs, water filters, pesticide bottles, plastic food wrappers, etc. In Texas, we say “Don’t Mess With Texas” to send the message of keeping trash out of nature. With Fun. Fit. Recycle. my goal in 2024 is to embrace that message. We are trying to keep these items out of the trash and reduce, reuse, recycle, and have fun while doing so! Trash doesn’t know geography. Wish you all a happy and healthy 2024! Cedar Ridge High School #teamseas #recycle #environment
