Great to see Jane Martin and Celine Deschamps alongside Gavin Lewis from Innovate UK and Chris Baker from Reposit | Returnable Packaging Platform | B Corp talking all things cross-sector collaboration, how critical internal advocacy is for systems change and the much needed policy change for the reuse playing field! A great panel discussion at Blue Earth Summit this afternoon on how to successfully collaborate cross-industry in #circulareconomy🤝

We’re City to Sea, a campaigning organisation on a mission to stop plastic pollution at source.
About us
City to Sea's campaigns are designed to stop plastic pollution at source. We tackle the single-use plastic items most found on our beaches, and in our rivers and oceans. We focus on stopping plastic at source by reducing demand, so our beaches won’t need to be cleaned in the future. We run people-powered, community serving campaigns and develop simple solutions to complicated problems. We believe collective action is key to lasting behaviour change and encourage everyone to rethink, refuse, reduce and reuse across all our campaigns. We are now a team of 27* located all over England & Wales, with Bristol as our home. We're made up of everyday people doing extraordinary things - we're campaigners, activists, volunteers, academics, influencers, techies, strategists, creatives, partnership managers, social marketeers and so much more! City to Sea was founded in 2015 by environmental campaigner Natalie Fee. Our vision is a world where everyone connects their actions to our oceans so all life can thrive. www.facebook.com/citytosea twitter.com/CitytoSea_ instagram.com/citytosea_

Yesterday some of our team enjoyed day 1 of Blue Earth Summit 🌊 Here's all they had to say about the awesome event... After a coffee in one of Circular&Co.’s returnable cups (LOVE 😍 seeing this in action!), we started the day in the futures forum with the brilliant and inspiring event ‘Our thriving post-plastic future - how will we make stuff?’ chaired by Sian Sutherland. We heard about the scale of the problem from Emily Penn from eXXpedition, Nick Doman co-founder and CEO of our partners Ocean Bottle, and Innovate UK polymers expert Prof Sally Beken, Fellow IOM3. We were treated to a showcase of some brilliant and innovative solutions from Alvin Lim from RyPax, Amir Afshar from Shellworks, Roni GamZon from BioFluff and Benjamin Droguet from Sparxell who are leading us towards a plastic-free future 🙌 The panellists confirmed what we’ve been campaigning for - that we need societal and behaviour change as well as industry and business innovation, and that policy change is needed to create a level playing field for business! We enjoyed hearing about the future of media and how to effectively communicate around the climate crisis from The Guardian, the BBC and JCDecaux UK, followed by another session on communicating sustainability hosted by our friends at Enviral. We heard from Patagonia, the RSPB and founder of Enviral Joss Ford on how important it is to keep flexing, evolving and being disruptive. There was talk again of the need for charities, businesses and policy makers to work together and the importance of creativity💡 In the afternoon we heard our #WorldRefillDay ambassador Deborah Meaden speak passionately about how businesses can go where politics can’t, followed by Dan Dicker Founder of our #RefillReturnCup scheme partner Circular & Co. talking all things circularity with Robert Dichtl♻️, CEO and founder of kleen hub | TAP&REUSE™⚡and founder of #BESUMMIT Guy Hayler We’re back today for more inspiring discussions, including our very own CEO Jane Martin and Marketing Manager Celine Deschamps speaking on 'Successful cross-industry collaboration for the circular economy, in action' panel this afternoon 🙌

A new report from CleanHub has revealed that currently, only 9% of plastic worldwide is successfully recycled, while the rest is discarded, incinerated, or pollutes our environment. Projecting that by 2050, plastic waste in landfill will reach 12 billion metric tons 🤯 This is why we focus our work on upstream solutions that stop plastic at source and our waste hierarchy prioritises reduction, reuse and refill before #recycling. https://lnkd.in/ef9Z9u3K

At City to Sea, we have a history of calling for policy change through our campaigns and advocacy work, with record successes. BUT single-use plastic packaging is still the largest culprit for plastic pollution in the UK. We know that people are ready for refill and reuse, so we've made it our priority to be the voice of the people and engage with policy makers to call for legislative change to tackle plastic pollution. Here's what we've been up to so far this year 👇 👇 https://lnkd.in/eUQ6vnmW

Cardiff now has a returnable coffee cup scheme! In partnership with FOR Cardiff, we’ve expanded our #RefillReturnCup to 23 participating venues in the Welsh capital ☕🥳 In the UK it is estimated that 2.5 billion takeaway coffee cups are used and disposed of each year, with 10,000 being used every two minutes. But together, we’re on a mission to stop this, one cup of coffee at a time. After great success in Bristol and at Bath Spa University, our pioneering borrow and return cup scheme enables people to use a reusable coffee cup, again and again, without needing to carry their own. Download the Refill app to discover all the participating cafes and coffee shops across Cardiff, to borrow or return your cup! https://lnkd.in/ecBQniuf

City to Sea reposted this
☕ Tomorrow is the launch of the Refill Return Cup Scheme in Cardiff! ☕ It's a collaboration between FOR Cardiff and City to Sea, allowing customers to ‘borrow’ a reusable cup from a participating cafe and return it later to be washed and reused. The Refill Return Cup Scheme was first launched in Bristol in June 2023, also run by City to Sea and funded by the Ecosurety Exploration Fund. It's fantastic to see Cardiff join the refill movement, offering a sustainable alternative to disposable coffee cups! We hope this momentum continues in more cities and look forward to seeing more of these schemes rolled out across the UK. To celebrate the launch tomorrow, participating businesses are offering one free coffee to the first 50 users of the scheme! So, if you're in Cardiff, don't miss out 👉 https://lnkd.in/eNdWbzT5
