It's no secret that cultivating relationships with superfans is the future of music...
I previously highlighted Live Nation's initiative to create VIP experiences for top fans, the importance of community, and D2C within music. Now, Warner Music Group is taking a big step forward with its development of its own superfan app.
This move is massive in recognizing and monetizing the unique value that superfans bring to the table.
Warner Music's CEO, Robert Kyncl, shared at the Web Summit that they're on the brink of launching a direct-to-fan platform, designed to nurture the artist-superfan connection.
It's exciting because it's more than just listening - it's about engaging and experiencing music on a personal level with an artist.

Clearly lots of ‘character building’ learnings to take from my own personal web3 journey………( could run out of …’s here ) but being able to see all of the various creators and community programs that we supported continue to shine in 2024 gives me immense joy and gratitude for the experience up to now.
My thoughts on what would actually help music creators & consumers globally vs typical western world only bias has also not surprisingly evolved significantly since this all began.
“How does one act ethically in an irrational environment?”
Sometimes however well meaning you are, it is no longer about simply changing the room but actually playing a new game altogether.
Ask major VC’s for instance why we make all these seemingly genuine calls for greater equity amongst Black and minority founders however we can still only muster less than 0.1% of global VC allocation….yep new game as opposed to new people — but to be clear representation MATTERS. Whilst we can leave disingenuous moral compass shifting programs in 2023, the fact remains that “You can’t be what you can’t see” — Lanny Smith
To give an example of different thinking….
I met a very interesting chap on my travels over the last 12 months who built a global empire through sacrificing his own respected product ( not an easy call ) to ultimately win by acquiring all of the markets blocking patents. Every major player in this industry now pays him millions of $’s to play every single day 💡
It’s this level of thinking that’s sometimes required if people don’t play fair ( which they often don’t ) or they don’t see the value in new perspective and ideas.
Of course there’s never any guarantee that any ‘solution’ will work so to speak but if any creative endeavour ( can apply to literally anything — read Rick Rubin’s book ‘ The Creative Act: A Way of Being’ ) helps to shape mass behaviour in a positive way and opens the door to more equitable playing fields then it was definitely worthwhile. Better to do something with love than to do nothing at all .
Worth also remembering that the act of failing often tends to positively correlate with unlocking / unblocking success…
Was going to simply repost this but somehow I’ve written a short novel….Wrapping all this by saying that I’m very excited to apply the learnings over the past few years to all I’m involved with and it is those learnings that play a huge part of why I’m so excited for 2024 and beyond with Clokkemaker , Matter and any other endeavours that come to fruition. I hope in 2024 we all continue to grow our collective awareness, understanding and care for one another ✨🚀

Superfans are the future of the #musicindustry because they drive significant revenue and create lasting connections with artists.
As streaming growth has plateaued, #labels are shifting their focus to superfans who spend more on music, merchandise, and exclusive experiences. Warner Music Group CEO Robert Kyncl and Universal Music Group CEO Lucian Grainge have highlighted the value of creating direct artist-superfan products and experiences and both recognise this as a key direction to move towards.
They are moving past streaming platforms for artists right now. This doesn't mean the end to steaming platforms, if just means they probably end up as the place to release music last, rather than first.
With more #artists and managers questioning if they should release new music on streaming things are changing fast and for the better in my opinion.
There's a sea shift and it's happening quickly. The growth area has moved to #superfans.
