This National Girl Child Day, we celebrate the remarkable success of our initiative Wheels of Change we launched last year to help young girls in the Dharashiv district of Maharashtra by making their access to schools easier. To address the issue of dropouts from high schools due to distance, we stepped in with a simple yet effective solution — distributing bicycles to these girls. This initiative not only made their commute easier but also encouraged families to send their daughters to school. Over the past year, the results have been encouraging and importantly, brought smiles to many more young faces. #NationalGirlChildDay #Games24x7Foundation #Games24x7 #LifeAtGames24x7 #Education #GirlChildEmpowerment

THIS IS NOT ANOTHER POST ABOUT PLAYGROUNDS… Today, in New York, marks the inaugural International Day of Play. But what is this new international day and why do we need it? First, some numbers from the UN that help explain why this day is so crucial: 71% of children say play is important because it makes them happy, and 58% say that it helps them make friends and have a good time with others. It is estimated that 160 million children around the world are working instead of playing or learning. Only 1 in 4 children play out regularly on their street compared their grandparents generation where almost three-quarters said they played outside a few times a week. 41% of children had been told to stop playing out by either their parents or other adults such as neighbours. Play is important not only to entertain and distract children. It is also an important tool for human development and raising resilient adults. This is a great opportunity for us to focus on the importance of play for human development and work. So, how can we take part here in our own backyard and make this day count, not only today but every other day? A few things you can do today to make an amazing, playful day for children: 🛝 Turn off your device and truly engage with children; get into their world. 🛝 Take your kids to a play space today. 🛝 Create a safe environment where play and learning are prioritised. 🛝 Have fun, laugh, engage. You wouldn’t believe how little moments of play can bring the kid inside every adult back to life!
