A new episode of "As the Dial Turns"-- Making a call on a #5 crossbar system Electromechanical telephone exchanges are truly remarkable. Lacking vacuum tubes and transistors, a single local exchange may include ~60,000 relays and ~1,000 crossbar switches. Check out this short, animated, explainer video on how a call is made on a Number 5 Crossbar system. Popular globally from the 1940s until the 1980s, crossbar switching represents a significant era in telecommunications history. https://lnkd.in/ggXrWxds

"F" LIKE"FAR3" With the increasing integration of wireless communication in many electrical devices, the Fully Anechoic Room (FAR) has become a very popular test site in recent years, particularly for testing table-top devices. Compared to a test site with a ground plane, where a height scan of the receiving antenna of 1 m - 4 m is required and, depending on the application, additional floor absorbers have to be placed on the floor a FAR offers, with smaller spatial dimensions, a measurement with a fixed antenna height and unchanged operation for all measurement applications without changing absorber layouts. Thanks to the fixed setup, this type of test site can be expanded into a fully automatic test site for the frequency range of 30 MHz - 40 GHz using a dual antenna system with 2 test axes. The FAR therefore offers advantages in terms of space, time and costs in many areas.
