The Q3 2024 funding recap shows that global venture capital continues to decline despite the surge in AI-related investments. Overall funding dropped 31% year-over-year, with late-stage deals hit hardest. AI startups bucked the trend, receiving a larger share of VC dollars. Seed and early-stage funding also decreased but less drastically. The tech industry faces tighter economic conditions, impacting fundraising across the board. However, investors remain focused on AI innovation, as it seems to be the primary driver of optimism in the current market. Read more https://lnkd.in/dy-Y3p6C.

Senior Correspondent at Business Insider, investigating the tech industry with a focus on VC and startups
NEW: When the longtime venture investor Matt Krna started Two Meter Capital this year, he hired only a skeleton team to manage a sprawling portfolio of more than 190 companies. The firm uses generative AI to do the bulk of its day-to-day portfolio management, tracking how companies perform and when they might raise another round. Without AI, Krna estimated he would have needed to hire half a dozen analysts. "In terms of personnel efficiencies, if you were hiring an analyst class of six, now it's three," Krna said. "I think a lot of venture funds will start to use AI as a tool." Silicon Valley has been enraptured by artificial intelligence for the past two years, with VCs racing to fund all manner of AI startups. Now, AI is changing venture capital itself, making what was already a hard field for young associates to break into that much more difficult and influencing how early-stage startups are funded. https://lnkd.in/g55hU8Ha
Artificial intelligence is coming for venture firms. VCs predict it could reduce head count by more than 50%.
