Who are you empowering today?

Should we have a universal measure for #socialvalue? This much debated question came up at #FestivalofPlace #socialimpact event hosted by Christine Murray. My biggest takeaway? That there's a common thread running through our different approaches including: the importance of baselining, meaningful community engagement and a holistic data gathering pulling together social, economic and environmental metrics. The ability to engage in long-term planning is becoming a major dividing line between communities that thrive and those that struggle. Long-term planning is often seen as the key to a community's success, but we need to challenge this idea! Homemade cookies and table cloths. When we co-facilitate it’s all about tone. We sometimes support teams to have difficult conversations about race, equity, and environmental justice. And we know that in order to disrupt systems of oppression, we have to create containers that can hold complexity, grief, power dynamics, and interpersonal collaboration differences. As our systems unravel and calibrate towards liberation, we want to hold the groups we support with grace and care. As facilitators we are doulas for group growth.
