🌟 May is Mental Health Month! 🌟 Let's talk about an essential aspect of estate planning that often gets overlooked: Mental Health Care Directives! 🧠💡 Just as we plan for our physical health needs in advance, it's equally important to plan for our mental health care preferences. That's where Psychiatric Advance Directives come in. 💼✍️ 🔹 What are Psychiatric Advance Directives? These are legal documents that allow individuals to specify their preferences for mental health treatment in case they become unable to make decisions for themselves due to mental illness. 🔹 Why are they important? They empower individuals to have a voice in their mental health care, ensuring their preferences are respected and followed, even during times of crisis. 🔹 How can you create one? Speak with a legal professional experienced in estate planning. They can help you draft a directive tailored to your unique needs and preferences. This Mental Health Month, let's prioritize our mental well-being in every aspect of our lives, including our estate plans. 💬💙 #MentalHealthMonth #PsychiatricAdvanceDirectives #EstatePlanning #MentalHealthAwareness

Mental health challenges can be one of the most difficult issues to discuss, especially in public. The article "Language Matters in Preventing Suicide" is a compelling read that emphasizes how the words we use can have a profound impact on reducing stigma, promoting understanding, and encouraging open, respectful conversations around mental health. 🌟 Key Insights from the Article: •Respectful Language: Reframing terms like "committing suicide" to "death by suicide" helps eliminate connotations of criminality and reduces stigma. •Balanced Reporting: Media coverage plays a significant role in shaping perceptions, which can either increase or reduce the risk of "suicide contagion." Responsible, evidence-based reporting makes a difference. •Destigmatization: Society must approach mental health challenges like other public health issues, opening doors for understanding, support, and recovery. Let’s choose our words wisely and foster a culture where mental health is discussed openly and compassionately. Language matters. What we say and how we say it is important. The words we use and the tone along with body language conveys the meaning and the intent. Example (in caps for emphasis and meaning): I didn’t SAY you ate my cookie. I didn’t say YOU ate my cookie. I didn’t say you ATE my cookie. Same words. Different meaning. When we are aware of what we say, how we say it…then we can ask ourselves: Is that what I meant? Is that me being my best self? Is what I said and how I said it supportive of a safe space and reducing stigma? “Words are words and people put meaning to words,” Dr. Gary Evans Gary Evans Eastern Michigan University

Mental health issues have increased significantly in the last 10 years. With that the amount of mental health care providers have also increased. I’ve heard too many horror stories. It’s time to set the record straight. Here are the 5 things you should look for, and watch out for when starting therapy. What to watch out for: - Accepts gifts - Takes you to lunch - Texts or calls you like friends - Tells you what you have to do - Breaks the therapeutic alliance Like any industry, there are good and bad apples. Therapy is an amazing resource. What to look for: - Understands therapeutic modalities - Wonders with you about options - Reminds you of confidentiality - Creates a safe space - Assesses needs With these tools, you can pick up on good or bad techniques. In the end, this will save you time and money. PS: What have you seen work? Or not work? #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth #MensMentalHealth #RememberingAustin --------------------------------------------------------- Hello, I'm Ethan Getchell. Over the past 6 months I participated in two great conferences (IFEBP and SALGBA). During these conferences I sat in on sessions that specifically focused on mental health struggles for first responders. Both were extremely eye-opening and encouraging. The advice/guidance shared during these sessions was simple but very impactful. TALK AND LISTEN to your population. We need to remove the stigma around mental health and let our people know that is okay to ask for help. #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #firstresponders

✨ BIPOC Mental Health ✨ 🖤 July is BIPOC Mental Health Month, formally recognized by Congress in 2008 as Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month. 🖤 Mental health affects us all, and everyone deserves the inherent right to have access to mental health support, resources, and care. 🖤 Still, not everyone has equal and equitable access to these crucial services because of stigma, shame, or fear of judgment. 🖤 These factors create significant barriers that prevent individuals from seeking mental health care. 🖤 Through education, advocacy, and community support and empowerment, we can create a future where mental health is a priority for all. Together, we can heal communities. 🖤 It starts with one conversation. #MentalHealth #MentalHealthCare #PrecisionMentalHealthCare #Psychotherapy #Therapy #PersonalizedCare #SelfCare #Empathy #Compassion #RespectForAll #DrFallonsPractice #DFP #NYC #ShadesofMentalHealth #BebeMooreLegacy #BIPOCMentalHealth @NAMI

Today is World Mental Health Day, a reminder of the importance of mental well-being across the globe. The World Health Organization estimates that nearly two-thirds of people with a known mental disorder never seek help from a health professional at all, highlighting a significant treatment gap. Let's work together to: - Increase awareness: Promote open conversations about mental health in our workplaces and communities. - Reduce stigma: Challenge misconceptions and discriminatory attitudes surrounding mental illness. - Improve access to care: Advocate for better and more affordable mental health services. #WorldMentalHealthDay #MentalHealthMatters #ViewMind #BrainHealth #HealthcareInnovation #DigitalHealth #CognitiveHealth

It's Mental Health Awareness Month, and we're thinking about ways to address the youth mental health crisis happening in North Carolina. The Center of Excellence for Integrated Care (COE), an FHLI program, has proposed a policy to give every child the option to get a free annual Mental Health Well Visit. This would help: ➡️ Eliminate patient cost barriers to mental health care. ➡️ Reduce mental health stigma by making it part of a yearly routine. ➡️ Identify mental health issues early—before they create more significant problems.
