Active shielding technology applied to the superconducting MRI helped to guarantee the magnetic field homogeneity in the central region and the expected 5 Gauss line range. This is achieved by incorporating a secondary magnetic field-generating coil to reduce the external field produced by primary coils. It was a great invention that helped contain the 5 Gauss line inside Zone IV, but it also increased the risk of ferromagnetic projectile accidents. Back in the days, before the MRIs were not self-shielded, when approaching the magnet with a ferrous object you felt a GENTLE PULL that gradually increased the closer you got to the magnet. This gave you time to react. With actively shielded magnets, you don’t feel anything until it's too late, and that ferrous object is flying towards the magnet's bore. The diagram below shows the fringe field of a 3T magnet. The distance between 30 Gauss and 30,000 Gauss is ONLY 12 feet!

This article investigates the discrete-Fresnel domain channel estimation in #orthogonal #chirp-#division #multiplexing (#OCDM)-based radar systems as an alternative to the correlation-based processing from the #conventional #OCDM (#C-#OCDM) #radar-#communication (#RadCom) system, which yields high, transmit-data-dependent sidelobe level.
