The worst has happened. You got laid off. You feel: - Terrified. - Angry. - And *over* being loyal to companies that can't be loyal back. But the pressure to figure things out quickly is real. Oh so real. And you know that job searching again isn't the answer. It's time to take matters into your own hands: Time to finally do what you've talked about all of these years and work for yourself. Here's how to go from laid-off to self-employed (in 4 steps): 1. 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗱𝘂𝗮𝗹𝘀. ↳ What have you enjoyed doing most in previous roles? ↳ What have you always been told you're really good at? ↳ What could you do on repeat? 𝘜𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘲𝘶𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘪𝘱𝘩𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘢 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘣𝘭𝘦𝘮 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘰𝘭𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯! 2. 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺. ↳ Do you want to embed yourself as a fractional CXO? ↳ Do you want to work on a project basis? ↳ Do you want to offer one specific service? 𝘜𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘲𝘶𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘢𝘯 𝘰𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘢𝘭 𝘤𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘦. 3. 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗵𝗮𝘂𝗹 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗲𝗱𝗜𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗮 𝘀𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗻𝗲𝘁. ↳ Update your Banner, Headline, & About section to communicate the problem you solve, who you solve it for and how you solve it. ↳ Identify other LinkedIn creators with overlapping audiences to yours, follow these creators & begin to comment and engage with their content. ↳ Create your own content that speaks to the problem you solve, who you solve it for and how you solve it (Bonus points if you include testimonials, case studies, and a call to action at the end!) 𝘜𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘨𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘸𝘢𝘺. 4. 𝗦𝗶𝘁 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗻𝗷𝗼𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗼𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝘀! ↳ No extra explanations to this needed 😆 Laid off ➡️ thriving in four steps. And the best part? 👉 You never have to worry about being laid off again. Cheering you on. You got this. #fractional #thefutureofwork #createwithkate P.S. Sometimes we all need some help getting started. If that's you, DM me "Independent" and let's chat strategy!

CELEBRATING 5 YEARS of EPITOME! Founding and growing Epitome Executive Search has been the joy of my career. A sure bet? Nope. Challenging? Yep. A humbling teacher? Absolutely. But the support of my network and those who trusted me to join the team, become an early client, be a repeat client, put their reputation on the line by hiring us ("no one ever got fired for hiring--insert large search firm here"), and growing with me has been one of the most satisfying things I've ever experienced. Some facts: # of Searches: 70 Job Function: 22% Marketing, 22% Finance, 10% Strategy/M&A, 46% all others Industries: 36% Consumer Healthcare, 35% Private Equity/Venture Capital, 14% Consumer/CPG, 15% all others Level: 71% C-Suite/SVP/VP, 29% all others The chance to take the leap into the talent world after my first career in marketing and strategy was only made possible by my amazing partner in life (and business), Andrew Forti. And one of the biggest takeaways to share with you all is: even if you can't quit your day job and start something from scratch, find some space in your life to do little 'tests' and move toward work that you love. Work that makes you tick. This could be side projects at your current company, committees that expose you to new people who see things differently, or a volunteer endeavor. Even before starting Epitome, I tried a few things in these categories that showed me that JUST STARTING builds momentum in the Universe. And provides feedback. There are so many ways to keep inching... or leaping toward something more compelling. I look forward to continuing to build relationships with all of my amazing clients, friends, former colleagues, and LinkedIn connections: truly, it's because of you that I can say "Long Live Epitome Executive Search" 💫

WOW, hello LinkedIn! For those who do not know, I left my role as a Senior Enterprise Account Manager back in September and took a sabbatical. I took a sabbatical because, at 28, I had no kids, a little money, and enough audacity to follow my dream of studying improv comedy at the Groundlings Theatre in LA. Some recognizable Groundlings alumni include Will Ferrell, Will Forte (Acalanes alum!), Jennifer Coolidge, Kristen Wiig, Chris Childers (also an Acalanes alum!), and Flo from Progressive. In addition to taking classes, I learned to surf on a shortboard (another bucket list item), broke par at my favorite local muni Goat Hill Golf Course (a bogey-free 4 under WITH a hole-in-one witnessed by Ray, Edgar, and Brett Usinger), and most importantly, I got ENGAGED to the love of my life Nicole Huffman!! It has been a life-changing few months and I am so grateful to my family, friends, and colleagues who encouraged me to take this time for myself. Now, I am ready to begin the next phase of my career and am specifically looking for a remote software startup role as an Account Executive. I know it’s not necessarily easy out there, so here are the first 4 things I've done to jump-start my search! 1. I’ve taken the time to consciously analyze where I have been, what I got from each experience, and what I want in my next role. This has helped narrow down my search criteria in a big way, however, improv inspires me to remain open to “yes and-ing” the unexpected, so I’m open to a curveball! 2. I built a plan with my friend and coach Gregory Russell Benedikt, ACC. This plan includes who in my network I want to reconnect with, what companies and leaders I admire, what companies are hiring, and what recruiters I can leverage. 3. I created my pitch and began networking! 4. I’m practicing my interview skills! My friend and Cal Poly alumni Esha Joshi created a badass startup called Yoodli which has helped me rehearse specific interview questions. Yes, this is a plug that they don’t need because they are killing it. Check them out! Thank you again to everybody for your support! I am so grateful for this network and can’t wait for what is to come!

I support Higher Education professionals to be more courageous in managing and leading. I create a courageous space for you to be messy and figure stuff out so that you can make progress in a way that feels good.
I'm busy getting things ready for the next intake of Wayfinders which starts in January and you're invited. I love this programme so much, and so do the current members. This is what Gabriella had to say about it: "When I joined the Wayfinders programme I’d been feeling lost for a while, and I was convinced that I had no idea what to do next. Wayfinders has helped me find the courage and confidence to redefine what “success” means to me, after years of pushing myself to achieve what I thought others would be proud of. Since joining Wayfinders, I have identified my motivations, values, and strengths, I have felt validated and heard, and I have found a new role which promises to be much more aligned with what matters to me at work, and in life. Through Wayfinders’ structured programme of group calls I have met many wonderful HE colleagues going through similar as well as different turning points in their careers – and the 1:1 calls with Fiona in particular have brought about many lightbulb moments! If you are considering joining Wayfinders, I wholeheartedly recommend that you should." Wayfinders is a six month programme and it's for you if, like Gabriella was, you're feeling stuck in your career in Higher Education and lacking confidence and self-belief. Through the combination of monthly group calls, workshops, 1:1 mentoring and bonus resources I will help you to redefine what success looks like for you. You'll reconnect to your motivation, your values and strengths to get you unstuck and moving in the right direction, even if you don't know what that is right now. Come. It's going to be great. This week and next you can join Wayfinders to the special price of £390 (£65 per month). After that it will revert to it's normal price of £600. I'll put the link in the comments section for you to join now, or you can pop me a message if you want to chat more about it. #highereducation #professionaldevelopment #wayfinders

Writer for Weirdos 😈👽🤖🔮 Copywriter, Content Marketing, and Brand Voice Specialist ✍️ Strategic copywriting for people who live and work outside the lines.
What good thing is happening in your life right now that’s happening so slowly you don’t even notice it? This happens to me a lot. Because life doesn’t usually happen in BIG events. Like getting a call saying you’ve been hired for a lucrative position, or your post goes viral and you are bombarded with people who are lining up to work with you. Instead, you have a client who wants you to write one article every week instead of every two weeks. Your LinkedIn post gets 120 impressions instead of the 40 or 50 you’re used to. You’re having interesting conversations with new people at least once a week, and one of them turned into a client. The vast majority of life happens in the small stuff. The little one percent increments that happen every day that can easily be overlooked when you’re used to focusing on the big stuff all the time. So, what little thing did you almost fail to notice that’s actually a pretty big deal when you think about it? #littlethings #makingprogress #workingtowardsyourgoals
