Whatever an individual’s view is on the cause of global sea and general temperature rise, we can collectively agree the impact of massive ice melt in Greenland and Antarctica, sea level rise and major impact on the ecosystem balance is not good for us or our planet. These impacts will take centuries to reverse (if ever), but we must do everything in our power to slow the changes down. We all want to protect our families and their families. But if we don’t collectively act….

Of all my #climatechange fears, this is my biggest nightmare. The melting Arctic ice lessens the salinity of the oceans, changing or halting the currents. Just the melting of the Greenland Ice Sheet is adding 400 billion tons of fresh water to the North Atlantic each year. "Disruption of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Current could freeze Europe, scorch the tropics and increase sea level rise in the North Atlantic." #future #climate #climatecrisis #globalwarming #ocean #sea Bob Berwyn https://lnkd.in/eFKBMDsu?

Chile's fiery dance with climate change is a warning to us all. Recent wildfires, the deadliest since the 2010 earthquake, are just a glimpse of what could become our new norm. Fueled by human activities and intensified by climate change, these infernos are predicted to rise in frequency and severity. 📌 How do we break this deadly cycle? Read below for the full story ⬇️

We can solve the planetary crisis and stabilize climate by supporting nature, by reducing material and energy consumption, reduce meat and dairy consumption and by active restoration and rewilding of nature. The floods in Europe did not surprise me. The unpreparedness of the world did not surprise me. The unwillingness to solve the planetary crisis does not surprise me. The headlines must focus on the solutions to increase awareness and hope. We cannot and must not give up. https://lnkd.in/d_VReTKD

There's probably a 50/50 chance that the AMOC (Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation) will break down in my lifetime. It's a pretty big deal - London is at about the same latitude as Labrador City or the southern end of James Bay; Edinburgh is the same latitude as Southern Alaska. Combined with a few meters of sea level rise from the Thwaites Glacier and associated ice sheets in the West Antarctic Ice Sheet, the entire geography, climate and economy of Western Europe would change rapidly (as it did during multiple Dansgaard-Oeschger Events over the past 120,000 years). A reminder that climate change doesn't equate to warming all over the world - it can lead to cooling (and freezing) in some cases and will directly affect 250 million people and one of the largest regional economies on the world. #palaeoclimatology #climatechange #sustainability https://lnkd.in/ejYjm3Fp

Gulf Stream collapse would throw tropical monsoons into chaos for at least 100 years, study finds By Sascha Pare If Atlantic Ocean currents collapse due to melting ice sheets, researchers predict there will be huge shifts in tropical monsoon systems — and the effects could be irreversible for at least 100 years. Atlantic Ocean currents that carry heat to the Northern Hemisphere could be grinding to a halt due to climate change. And if the vital currents do slump, tropical monsoon systems would be thrown into chaos for at least a century, a new study suggests. Read on at https://lnkd.in/evpKwndy

🐻❄️ Why’s the Arctic ‘the hotspot of global warming’? Explained 👇 Here’s a hard fact: Since 1979, the Arctic has warmed nearly four times faster than the rest of the planet. 🥵 Our current emission rates could leave the Arctic ice-free by 2050.🫣 To understand why, we need to learn two processes: 1. 🌊 Atlantification, when the warming climate changes the marine ecosystem, making it more temperate 2. 🌀Feedback loops, when the result of the mechanism causes the mechanism to repeat itself Swipe for the detailed explainers, but also: What we can all do to avoid a future with an ❄️ ice-free Arctic. 📷 Polar bear cover image by mywildlive on Instagram #OceanGeneration #Ocean #OceanDecade #OceanThreats #OceanSolutions #OceanEducation #SeaLife #EnvironmentalEducation #MarineLife #Nature #UnderTheSea #DidYouKnow #Environmentalist #OceanLifeFacts #Arctic #Atlantification #ScienceExplained #MarineScience #GlobalWarming

EarthLight’s First Principle is: Protect and Expand the Domain of Life. #Spacers should have a high awareness of things at a planetary scale. As the south east digs out of two monster hurricanes, both of which devastated a state that has banned the use of the words “climate change,” and where policies encourage people to build in places that make no sense, we are seeing a vivid example of how our species - even given the data - is unable to comprehend and act on major shifts necessary to anticipate and sculpt the future. The #AMOC (Gulf Stream) is about to “fail.” It even rang a bell earlier this year when a giant piece of Greenland glacier fell into the ocean setting off seismometers around the world. No one on the #presidential campaigns is talking about the #environment. Of course to almost 50% of the electorate the climate crisis is a “hoax.” So just close your eyes and whistle - just learn to do it underwater. #Climate #AMOC #Greenland #Earth
