Hello and welcome to another book on a bench and today's book is. Politics on the edge? A Memoir from Ravine by Rory Stewart. Now Rory Stewart is a former Conservative MP's in the UK who could have become at one time the Prime Minister. However he was sacked and his since got on to do other things. The book, whilst being a memoir touching on is work and career in places like Iraq, Afghanistan and at Harvard University, and as an MP for Penrith it is more. Another. Expose, if you like, of the absolute dire Strait. Of. The UK Government and UK politics and parliament. You can feel the frustration in so many of the chapters, particularly when he was a minister trying to create change and reform within the prison service. And really it's just giving us an insight from someone who was in the on the inside about. The way that politics was done, the problems around funding, decision making, leadership and just the whole direction of how politics and parliament has gone and. It really is. It's a read that made me angry and places frustrated in places. It had me nodding my head in many places because I was thinking, Yep, this is how I thought it was. Although I didn't think it was this bad, but it really does. Highlight just how difficult it is to get good things done in the current UK political system. So if you're interested in politics or want to have a read about somebody who's had a very interesting life and career. This book, Politics on the Edge by Rory Stewart is one for you. And if you also like podcasts, you may also know that he is on one of the most popular podcasts around. It's called The Rest is Politics, which he Co hosts with Alastair Campbell, who was Tony Blair's former spin doctor. So that's my book on a bench. It's Rory Stewart's Politics on the Edge. Yeah.

A brittle democracy? This article by Alexander Gillespie in the Conversation, affirms the strengths of our democracy and the institutions to support it. But this comes with a warning about a certain brittleness and some democratic decline, which needs careful watching.
