I'm pleased to join the VECTOR North America #SDV Symposium in #Michigan (technically Livonia) to give a keynote presentation on the industry's progress towards building, supporting and commercializing SDVs - as well as some practical observations for how to address common problems. I like to frame these in the style of Abraham Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, a model many of us picked up in our high school/college years in Psychology 101. The idea is that before you can achieve self-actualization - the top tier that allows people to be creative and maximize intellectual potential - more basic needs like food, safety, and belonging must be achieved first. In the context of automotive, before you can truly take advantage of what SDVs have to offer ("self-actualization"), there are a ton of other competencies that must be mastered first. Rushing to the top of the pyramid while ignoring the foundation is a recipe for disaster, and one we're seeing repeated amongst many volume automakers. Day 9 of my #70DaysOfDSA challenge, and today I tackled some advanced problems with Singly Linked Lists. Here are the problems I solved today: Find the Starting Point in a Loop in Linked List Length of Loop in Linked List Check if Linked List is a Palindrome Segregate Odd and Even Nodes in Linked List Insight of the Day: One of the most intriguing problems was finding the starting point in a loop in a linked list. This involves using Floyd’s Cycle Detection algorithm to detect the loop and then identify its starting point efficiently. Key Takeaways: Loop detection and length calculation are essential for handling cyclic linked lists. Checking if a linked list is a palindrome requires a combination of reversing and comparing parts of the list. Segregating odd and even nodes can optimize certain operations and lead to more efficient algorithms. Comparing Yolov8 and Yolov8 with Kalman Filter for Object Tracking. Yolov8 performed well in object detection, but its performance varied between frames. By implementing Kalman Filter techniques, tracking has improved considerably. The Kalman Filter predicts the car's trajectory even when Yolo fails to detect it in a frame. Super excited to share that we received a regular National Science Foundation (NSF) research grant from their Adv Manufacturing division! The grant is with Sinisa Mesarovic from WSU and Mike Renn of Optomec, who will be our industry partner. This is my fourth grant as a PI from this division! The research will generate fundamental knowledge that will allow near-net-shape manufacture of parts for sintering-based AM processes (including that for the patent-pending 3D-printed Brain-Computer Interfaces my group has developed) & introduce a new mechanism to achieve 4D-printing!!! Using in-situ/operando experiments in SEM and mesoscale phase-field models, we look forward to solving this important problem! For context, TD-MPC is a method for simultaneously learning a world model and value function using reinforcement learning.
