I had the most fantastic time at 🔷Victoria University during the Leadership Workshop’s topic on Feedback on September 22! 🖊️📋 I am so grateful to Amin Eslami and Ashlie Thorburn for their amazing preparation and for conducting the workshop! It was filled with fun icebreakers and so many activities! The way they supported and encouraged Victoria University students to speak up during the discussion made me more comfortable and felt that I was in a safe environment! Throughout the lesson, Amin covered the topic of effective feedback and mentioned how we can implement it in our university, events, work, personal life, and more! He explored so many different points while also being clear and comprehensible. My favorite part of the discussion was when he mentioned that good feedback is when the recipient genuinely listens and takes in your input. After giving criticism it's important to provide inputs on how the recipient can improve. Ashlie explained the Situation-Behavior-Impact (SBI) method really well. She started off by discussing the importance of giving out content with a clear and specific situation, ensuring that it is based on your observation and perspective and not being judgmental, highlighting the essential need to be socially aware in giving out feedback. In the impact stage, she stated that it was more about the impact of the Situation/Behavior. There was also an example given to illustrate the SBI model in a particular situation. Additionally, she also pointed out the importance of asking for feedback and as well as giving feedback. One of my highlights of the workshop was when Shayla Nguyen was excited to talk about the Sandwich method as it was her favorite model to use in giving feedback! (Sandwich method: Compliment, Coach/Constructive feedback, and Encourage/Positive comment) An awesome workshop that enhanced my understanding and expertise in delivering feedback.
