Adverse Drug Events (ADEs) contribute to 1 in 9 emergency department visits. Even more concerning, 1 in 3 of these are due to repeated prescriptions of the same drug. ActionADE is an application that allows providers to document and communicate standardized ADE information to prevent re-exposures to harmful medications. “When you go to a doctor, they can generally look up all your medications. The first 10 drugs selected for Medicare price negotiations based on the Inflation Reduction Act passed in 2022 by the Biden-Harris administration will soon publish negotiated prices. Prior to this act, the government was forbidden to negotiate drug prices. Each year, more drugs will be added to the list as this legislation focuses on making medications more affordable. Friday Fentanyl Facts Fact: Fentanyl is often disguised to look like other prescription medications, making it incredibly dangerous for unsuspecting users. This practice of counterfeiting prescription pills with fentanyl has led to a significant increase in overdose deaths, as individuals believe they are consuming a safer, regulated medication. Impact: Counterfeit pills containing fentanyl are nearly indistinguishable from legitimate medications, leading to accidental overdoses. This deceptive practice exacerbates the opioid crisis, posing a severe risk to public health and safety. The DEA reports that many seized counterfeit pills contain lethal doses of fentanyl, further highlighting the danger. Action: Educate your friends and family about the risks of counterfeit medications and the prevalence of fentanyl in these pills. Encourage them to only use medications prescribed by a healthcare provider and obtained from a licensed pharmacy. Always have Narcan, the overdose-reversing medication, available and know how to use it. Together, we can raise awareness and help prevent these tragedies.
