Healthy eating boosts emotional well-being, strengthens social connections and empowers thriving communities. VCHRI experts Joyce Wong and Helen Yeung share practical, evidence-based tips to help you incorporate nutritious habits into your daily routine. “There is no one-size-fits-all approach to healthy eating. One person’s goal might be to replace an afternoon chocolate bar with fruit, while another might aim to eat together more often. The key is to find an approach that fits your lifestyle and supports your long-term health.” Looking to build healthier habits? Prostate cancer is primarily driven by male androgens like testosterone. However, some subsets become less testosterone-dependent over time, reducing the effectiveness of first-line treatments. VCHRI researchers Drs. Alex Wyatt and Cameron Herberts, PhD are using novel genetic technology to decode prostate cancer at the molecular level, shedding light on disease progression and paving the way for more precise, personalized treatments. “Certain mutations mean that a patient could benefit from immunotherapy or some other form of targeted therapy,” says Dr. Wyatt. “Understanding not only how the genetic code of prostate cancer subtypes differs, but also how the genes are organized and packaged, is taking us to the next level of cell regulation research in prostate cancer.” Learn more about their trailblazing research: https://lnkd.in/gFdGikJi #HealthResearch #ProstateCancer #PrecisionMedicine

Almost half of Canadians living with type 1 diabetes (T1D) experience diabetes distress with frustrations and fears related to managing this condition. The innovative REACHOUT app, developed and tested by VCHRI investigator Dr. Tricia Tang’s team, offers a virtual care platform with comprehensive mental health support for people with T1D. "The REACHOUT app gave participants the support they needed in the moment it mattered most,” explains Dr. Tang. “They decided the frequency and intensity of support.” Learn more about Dr. Tang’s research: https://lnkd.in/gwMbEzPK #HealthResearch #T1D #PeerSupport

Primary progressive aphasia is a rare syndrome of dementia which affects the brain regions responsible for communication. VCHRI researchers Drs. Ging-Yuek Robin Hsiung and Katharine Davies explore the communication needs of people with this condition and their families, pinpointing areas for improvement of dementia care. “Our research revealed distinctive shifts in communication needs along the disease progression that could aid in the refinement of training and supports for speech-language pathologists,” notes Dr. Hsiung. “These findings have key clinical implications for proactive communication care across the continuum of dementia care.” Learn more about this impactful research: https://lnkd.in/gcmZqzH2 #HealthResearch #Dementia #PatientCare
