There was a big Scandal this weekend in #Montreal that took place between the #Restaurant #Owners & The #Munipality / Fire department local authorities that showed up at the last minute during #Peaktime of operations and just before the #Kickoff of the #F1 #Weekend over setting outdoor terraces that are covered as the city is expecting rain over the city's busiest weekend of the year! The Point is that these restaurants have applied for permits & have invested thousands of dollars for this setting which is the same every year over the F1 weekend and is nothing new. This year and as stated above, at the peak time of evening operations and before the guests start arriving, the fire department has asked all restaurant owners to shut down these terraces stating that they are non-compliant with the fire safety rules! I want to pretend that the Fire department and local authorities are correct from their "Perspective", but from a #Hospitality #Tourism & A #Greaterbenefit for the #City and the #Country #Canada shall we ask if the following questions are valid : 1- Why other local authorities / Departments do give any permits instead of asking the #Restaurateurs to get an initial permit before all from the Fire department? 2- Considering the importance of tourism & As a means of support to this Sector that has suffered more than any other sector during the Covid and still, why the local authorities don't simply have a duty team that supervises the operations of those specific streets where this set up has taken place and simply see the people enjoying what the city has to offer and at the end this would be a #Success for the whole city ! 3 Why these authorities don't show up the first thing in the morning -If this decision is a must - to allow enough time for the restaurateurs to call and cancel their respective #Customers bookings? 4-Doesn't these businesses deserve a kind of #Compensation? Especially that the notices weren't given 24 or 48 hrs. in advance? Last but not least, the #Formulaone event is a very special #International event where many #Regulations should be at ease in order to maximize the benefits of hosting such an event in the city! Additionally, this type of event should be coordinated between the #Associationofrestaurants and the #Localauthorities #Municipality in advance and a better coordination between all of these parties is a must no doubt!

Myth: You Should Always Pad Out Your Guest Count Truth: Figuring out how many people will attend your #WeddingReception is often trickier than it sounds. Sure, you have the RSVPs, but inevitably some guests won’t make it & others will bring an unexpected plus one. Ultimately, knowing how many guests will be attending can be a challenge That being said, professional #caterers know their business, & if you provide them with a general head count they’ll make the necessary provisions for any unexpected guests. There’s no need for you to pad out your guest list as a safety measure. If your caterer is experienced, they’re already a few steps ahead of you when it comes to guaranteeing full service to all of your #WeddingGuests #SaltersEvents #WeddingCatering #LondonWedding #KentWedding #SurreyWedding #SussexWedding #CateringLondon @salter.ian @wedding_kelly

🍺 The average price of a pint pushed over £5 as Brits expected to tip more our latest research found! The research, based on 2,500 hospitality businesses, staff and customers to gain insight into the UK’s tipping culture, uncovered how 74% of the hospitality industry will apply a service charge as standard for pouring pints and making cocktails. 22% of these already charge a tip while 52% plan to add a charge of up to 10% for the service, pushing the current average price of £4.75 for a pint to over £5 in some places for the first time. Those living in the Home Counties, Northern Ireland and the capital could bear the brunt of these changes. In London a pint will cost you at least £7.15, with a 10% tipping charge, followed by Lisburn (£6.71) and Brighton (£6.60). The three cheapest cities in the UK for a pint will be Wrexham (£2.20), Bangor (£2.42) and Dunfermline (£2.97). Want to find out what else we uncovered? A TALE OF TWO PROPERTIES 🍽️ 🍺 I recently got back from a trip around the west coast of Ireland with my wife. We spent our last night in Galway (an amazing city that neither of us had been to before) and we both loved the contrasts you could find in neighbouring properties. On the left is Aniar - a Michelin star restaurant (and one of the best meals we have ever had). It only recently reopened after a refurbishment project which completely transformed the inside of the restaurant. On the right is M.P. Walsh - an old school pub which was previously a post office and was incredibly welcoming (and did a cracking pint of Guinness). I recently posted asking what landlords and tenants can do to make their properties stand out from the crowd. Aniar and M.P. Walsh are good examples of differing approaches from hospitality spaces which do not have a huge amount of space inside so need to maximise the experience for their customers. Aniar is the only Michelin star restaurant in Galway but cannot rest on its laurels as they are only able to take a maximum of 38 covers for dinner. The closed curtains (and traditional Irish folk music) create ambience for customers inside the restaurant and add a sense of intrigue for passersby. As for M.P Walsh, the barman told me that, as they have no beer garden which a lot of pubs around them do, they need to make the inside of the pub as appealing as possible to attract customers. Both are leaning into their strengths and utilising them as much as they can instead of trying to cover up their weaknesses. New and quirky VS old and full of character in the same place - more of this in London please, unless there’s an area that has this and I’ve missed it? #commercialproperty #landlord #tenant #landlordandtenant #hospitality #pubs #restaurants
