As climate change risks escalate, it's crucial for cities to enhance their resilience and address systemic inequities. USGBC has developed the Equity Guide to complement the LEED v4.1 for Cities and Communities: Existing Cities rating system. This innovative tool applies an equity lens to each credit within the rating system, offering case studies, guiding context, and questions to help local governments integrate equity more effectively into their sustainability planning. By centering equity in sustainability efforts, we can ensure that every action and goal considers equitable outcomes, achieving a just distribution of resources to protect all communities from climate-related hazards. You can explore how the Equity Guide can support your city in advancing climate action rooted in equity. Let's work together to create more resilient, equitable, and sustainable cities for all! 🌍 https://bit.ly/467pu5r #Sustainability #ClimateAction #Equity #USGBC #LEED #Cities #Communities #ClimateChange #Resilience

Public Health Sustainability scientist and Social entrepreneur leading innovation in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
This beautiful image, taken in the heart of London's financial district, serves as a powerful reminder of the need for harmony between urban development and nature—a concept aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The green, plant-covered statue amidst the serene fountain and lush trees symbolizes #SDG15: Life on Land, which focuses on sustainably managing forests, combating desertification, halting and reversing land degradation, and halting biodiversity loss. In the context of a bustling business hub like the #London Bank area, this scene invites reflection on how urban spaces can integrate green infrastructure, supporting both environmental sustainability and human well-being. It’s a visual representation of the potential for sustainable cities to foster a balance between economic progress (#SDG8: Decent Work and Economic Growth) and environmental stewardship. As businesses and institutions rethink their role in addressing climate change, let this image inspire more green initiatives and partnerships that align with the global goals for a better, more sustainable future. EmpVic Research Public Health Solutions is happy to witness this initiative! #SustainableDevelopment #UNSDGs #GreenCities #LifeOnLand #ClimateAction #SustainabilityInBusiness

🌍 Progress Update on Sustainable Development Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities 🚧 I’m excited to share insights from the 2024 UN progress report on SDG 11! As of now, we are only 25% of the way towards our 2030 target, positioning SDG 11 as the 5th highest goal in terms of level of attainment among all the Sustainable Development Goals. This achievement underscores both the challenges we face and the progress we've made in creating inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable cities. Key areas of focus moving forward include: - Affordable Housing: Ensuring access to safe and affordable housing for all. - Sustainable Transport: Promoting public transport systems that are accessible and environmentally friendly. - Urban Planning: Implementing smart urban planning that incorporates green spaces and addresses climate resilience. Together, we can accelerate efforts to enhance urban sustainability. Let’s keep pushing for innovation and collaboration to meet these critical goals! #SDG11 #SustainableCities #UrbanDevelopment #SustainableDevelopmentGoals #UNProgressReport

Last month in Newcastle, our very own Environmental Manager, Asimina (Mina) Cole, joined industry experts to brainstorm innovative ways to advance retrofit initiatives in the North East. 🧠💥 The consensus? The work being done in the retrofit space is crucial for our region, especially given the impacts of climate change and the unique characteristics of our housing stock. Key discussions focused on funding, skill development, and the necessity for ongoing collaboration between government and industry. We emphasised that long-term strategies are essential—short-term, stop-start measures won't suffice. Engaging our communities and raising awareness about the importance of this work remains a top priority for us at RE:GEN Group. 🙌 Read more about the roundtable insights and outcomes in the link below. Let's continue building a sustainable future together! Thanks to Building Magazine for having us. 🌏 #Retrofit #Sustainability #ClimateAction #CommunityEngagement #REGEN https://lnkd.in/eeGrfqmt

#GEFcouncil67 approved $151.8M in funding for the Sustainable Cities Integrated Program, which will help catalyze urban system transformation in cities for a nature-positive, climate-resilient, and carbon-neutral future. 🏙️ By 2050, 70% of the global population is predicted to live in cities, making the shift towards low-carbon, resilient & inclusive cities crucial for our future. Created by the Global Environment Facility in 2016, the Sustainable Cities Program has been spearheading efforts towards low carbon, and a greener, more resilient future. Since its inception, it has transitioned through three different phases and pioneered the two-track programmatic and integrated approach: city-level projects and a global partnership platform. 🔗 Learn more about the program: https://lnkd.in/e9iFG6TR
