🌿 Scalable solutions are needed for low carbon cements. Yesterday, The Institution of Structural Engineers published its latest report, highlighting the urgent need to develop alternative, scalable, low-carbon cements. The report highlighted ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) as an excellent low-carbon substitute for traditional Portland cement. Though their report points out that GGBS alone cannot replace enough Portland cement on a global level, it is worth pointing out that within Ireland, there is still capacity for the growth and specification of GGBS, and it will remain the most effective way of decarbonizing concrete in Ireland with current technologies for some time. It is important that we use all low carbon options available in our market. Low carbon cement options are essential for rapid decarbonization, and the good news is that scalable solutions, such as Ecocem’s ACT technology, are in development and being trialled currently. ACT will reduce the clinker factor of traditional cement by up to 70% by using a range of alternate locally available SCMs and is truly scalable. Talk to our team today about our latest innovations. #LowCarbonCement #Decarbonisation #CementIndustry #ACTNow

📉 Accelerating #cement and #concrete decarbonisation is a key priority for ECOS! With a fast-growing number of #safe and #scalable solutions, the challenge ahead is regulatory one. #standards play a key role in turning #cement and #concrete into a fast-to-abate sector. 👊 Together with frontrunners such as the Alliance for Low-Carbon Cement & Concrete, we advocate for strong #performance-based #cement and #concrete standards in Europe. This is the only way forward to create a level-playing field for the marketing of new materials AND put the incentives right for strong #innovation and #decarbonisation. 🙏 Fortunately - Europe doesn't need to reinvent the wheel! A fast growing number of markets moved already to #performance based standards! In our latest paper (https://lnkd.in/dHvSgAch) we show what lessons can be learned from these countries. Our main findings are: 👉 Shifting from prescriptive to performance based standards is straightforward and easy! All major (European) #cement and #clinker producers have experience operating on (entirely) performance based markets 👉 #less is more! Complex systems, with different types of standards and approaches, are underperforming. 👉 Low carbon innovations thrive in #performance based markets. They are a key lever to further reduce the #clinker factor (even in top-performing markets) and create a more #resilient and #circular value chain

Did you know that concrete is the most used man-made material after water? And did you know that concrete's inherent properties help build a more sustainable future? Very good video created by The Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA)!! #VCEAATeam

GCCA – Global Cement and Concrete Association create a creative tracker, the tracker includes compsnies have carbon capture technologies and clay calcination kiln units. Very useful to give an update about green project globally. The competition will be very hard the next period, and the main challenges still the quality and color of the calcined clay

Cementir launches today a new Aalborg White Cement with a lower carbon footprint, D-Carb®, which presents a 15 percent reduction in CO2 emissions when compared with CEM I 52.5R. D-Carb® is the first white cement in the market to match a lower-carbon footprint with high performances at early ages. It is available in European markets before its global expansion. D-Carb® supports a smooth transition for industrial users towards more sustainable finished products while maintaining high quality standards similar to Aalborg White CEM I 52.5R, especially its excellent performances at early ages comparable to CEM I, meeting strict construction timelines. Inheriting the extra properties of Aalborg White® clinker, including extremely low alkali and low chloride content, D-Carb® ensures reliable quality and durability of finished products, while its pure, very light limestone selection enhances and stabilizes whiteness. "The successful rollout of D-Carb® is pivotal in advancing our ‘net zero emissions’ ambition. We believe that the lower-carbon white cement will play a significant role in decarbonizing the building and construction sectors, offering stakeholders in the value chain with lower- carbon finished products aligned with sustainable building standards. " says Michele Di Marino, Chief Sales, Marketing, and Commercial Development Officer of Cementir. Cementir Group continues its broader decarbonisation efforts for low- carbon products, ongoing assessments are in progress to strengthen the D-Carb® range with additional sustainable solutions. I'm really thrilled to announce that I completed my first Literature Review paper. The paper is titled "Journey to Decarbonization: Assessing Cement Concrete Industries Opportunities". Given increasing worldwide worries about climate change, the necessity for decarbonization in the cement industry has grown increasingly essential. This study thoroughly examines the current environmental implications of cement manufacturing and identifies options to reduce its carbon footprint. This study explains two key approaches to decarbonizing the cement industry: the use of Supplementary Cementitious Materials (SCMs) and the use of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology, both of which provide viable paths to sustainability. The viability and essential nature of decarbonization activities in the cement business are highlighted here, as is the importance of regional differences and regulatory frameworks in defining effective interventions. follow this link for the full paper: https://lnkd.in/gXpuvTnS #civilengineering #greentech #sustainability #cementindustry #decarbonization #literaturereview #buet #undergraduate
