Congratulations to Michael Richards on completing his NVQ Level 3 Land-Based Engineering. Michael's journey with us began in 2015, fresh out of school and uncertain about his career path. It was his father, Paul, an experienced Plant Fitter at GD Harries, who guided him to consider a career in our company. After a month of work experience at one of our quarries, Michael was so intrigued, and the company was so impressed with his enthusiasm that he was offered a role as a ‘fitters mate’. Since then, he has completed his Level 2 HGV Mechanical Engineering Course and Level 3 Land Based Engineering. Michael’s career aspirations are a testament to his commitment to GD Harries. We look forward to him developing within the business and expanding his knowledge and skills. A journey we are proud to be a part of.

Project MFG & TMG’s Virginia Talent Pipeline Project (VA TPP) partnered with Tidewater Community College Skilled Trades Academy, in Portsmouth, VA. to host a Project MFG Maritime Welding Competition & Career Discovery. This event brought together 22 students from 7 local high schools and community and technical education (CTE) centers to compete in a Maritime Welding competition. In this competition, students were judged on the quality of their welds, the precision of their measurements, and their adherence to safety protocols. Local judges from Allfirst, Bay Metals & Fabrication, and Mills Marine & Ship Repair also evaluated the contestants ability to troubleshoot and solve problems related to welding. Austin Wert from T.H. Badger Technical School took first place. Thomas Thach & Elizabeth Otocka both from the Advanced Technology Institute came in second and third place, respectively. These students represent the next generation of skilled trades. We’re proud to help develop skills to pursue rewarding careers. This year's winter shutdown at FORD KANSAS CITY ASSEMBLY PLANT our VOME teams are replacing all the Fluid Fill equipment on the Transit Van side. The new tooling will allow us to meet future product requirements along with improving throughput capability and quality. The multi-million dollar fluid fill project started over a year ago with lead engineers Dave Closs (VIS) and Zack Sweeney (VME). From conceptual design to equipment in plant Dave and Zack worked through numerous issues such as cycle line constraints, equipment build standards, facilities and even logistics from Europe. The two of them took ownership of issues to drive solutions to meet quality, timing, and financial deliverables for this project. With the leadership from Dwayne Moncrief (Mfg. Program Manager) and John Temesy (Mfg. Program Leader) extensive pull ahead facility modifications were executed during previous shutdowns to prepare multiple areas in the plant for the new fill equipment. With the succesfully pull ahead work from Dwayne and John the tooling was able to be installed within this winter's shutdown time frame minimizing an extended plant shutdown. As we execute the installation phase of this project, we brought in two additional talented engineers to help manage the project on nights to insure a safe and timely install with our supplier partners. Moe Elourfali (Adv. Fluid Fill Feas.) who has a large library of automative fluid fill industry experience and Andy Roth (FCG) one of our newer engineers coming through the Ford College Graduate program. #WeAreFord #VOME #KansasCityAssemblyPlant #Teamwork #FordCollegeGraduate #DurrSomac #SchenckUSA #Alberici

even if it is relatively simple work, i think that in many cases it is better to weld what is possible in the workshop and to assemble in the field the only minimum necessary

Yep. Plenty of bespoke customer orders to go at. If you have left ordering this late, we are now most definitely talking January delivery! One of the things I am most grateful to 2024 for (and there are quite a few things I am not grateful for) is the enormous swing back towards quality, rather than just plain "cheap". Never more emphatically summarised than with the local customer who has around a dozen mini excavators, from one brand, that each came with three 'free' buckets. Every single one of the buckets has bent in use are being replaced by our products. Why would a quality excavator manufacturer, or their dealer, want to risk that reflecting on their produce? https://lnkd.in/ePEKqdK4
And still they weld! Busier than Santa's workshop in here, with the team welding excavator buckets and attachments. Clearly plenty of jobs starting next year. If you have work kicking off in 2025 that you need to kit your excavator out for, we're now scheduling production for week commencing 6th January.
