The priority to resourcing and bed allocation in our acute sector is for people arriving via ambulance. Unfortunately, people awaiting planned care at home - even for extremely high value interventions like Bariatric Surgery (or Joint Replacements) just wait...... Across Australia only ~5% of Bariatric Surgery is done in public hospitals, yet most people for whom this surgery is indicated cannot access the surgery via the private sector #Highvaluecare - let's start making it happen #obesity
Obesity is an epidemic in our country, and the health ramifications are significant. 70% of SA is now considered to be overweight or obese.
