A great reminder…the diamond’s “character” should “speak to you” or it’s not the right stone for you! Unfortunately, today the decision as to which diamond someone buys is based more on the paper—ie its GIA (or other)diamond report, rather than on the beauty & “character” of the stone! Some people, very sadly, even make a decision entirely based on the paperwork, without even seeing the diamond. However, by showing clients multiple stones ALL OF WHICH MEET THE CLIENT’S CRITERIA, you will quickly see how the client will truly “bond” with one…for perhaps inexplicable reasons…but this is actually a particular diamond’s “character” and it is the “X” factor that makes the difference! I’ve developed my own approach to the way I show stones, but there isn’t enough space for me to explain my approach here. Personally, I think this would be an excellent topic for one of the gem/jewelry conferences to explore more in-depth with attendees…I know it would provide lots of VERY interesting —and even “entertaining” — personal anecdotes, for It is truly more about the “character” of the diamond than most people realize!
