The AI act: final step in Europe. The first global regulatory framework on #AI comes into force.

From 1 August 2024, the AI Act, the first global regulatory framework on #ArtificialIntelligence approved by the European Parliament and the European Council, comes into force. Aim of this pioneering law is to promote the development and implementation of safe and reliable AI systems across the EU, ensuring compliance with fundamental rights, security and ethical principles, and addressing risks related to powerful AI models. The enactment of AI Act marks a crucial step towards a more secure and ethical Artificial Intelligence, strengthening #DataProtection under the applicable legislation, in particular Regulation (EU) 2018/1725. Meanwhile in Italy, the document "Italian Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2024-2026" has been published. The text is written by a committee of experts designed to support the Italian Government in the definition of a national regulation and strategies for this technology, with the support of AGID - Agenzia per l'Italia Digitale. After the last week´s political agreement on the #AI #Act, a lot of resources have become available on the upcoming #artificialintelligence legislation (for a quick overview, please see the great EU AI Act #cheatsheet created by Oliver Patel, CIPP/E, available at https://lnkd.in/dPm4DdER or see this useful collection of valuable resources regarding the AI Act from Caitlin Fennessy at https://lnkd.in/dydsXSS4). While we await the final text of the #AIAct, it is worth emphasizing that the AI Act is entering the rapidly evolving legislative environment of the EU, covering many aspects of #technology, #digitalisation, #data (including #personaldata) and other intellectual property (#IP) protected resources. To be ready to implement the #governance structures necessary for the development or use of #artificialintelligence in accordance with the upcoming AI Act, this context must always be taken into account.

World's 1st AI Regulation: EU's Landmark AI Act 🌐🇪🇺⚖️ The European Union has enacted the AI Act, the world's first comprehensive legislation regulating artificial intelligence. Endorsed on May 21, this groundbreaking law introduces a uniform legal framework for AI use, emphasizing trustworthiness and protection of citizens' rights. The act adopts a risk-based approach, imposing stricter regulations on high-risk AI applications and banning those involved in cognitive manipulation or discriminatory practices. Organizations using high-risk AI must register, undergo rights assessments, and submit regular audits, with fines for non-compliance reaching up to 7% of global revenue or 35 million euros. Success of EU’s AI Act hinges on standards process that’s already causing headaches. When the EU’s Artificial Intelligence Act passed after a notoriously grueling final political negotiation in December, it was celebrated as a major success for the EU, long keen to be seen as the world leader in digital regulation. Now the law is expected to be published in the EU's Official Journal next month and then come into force 20 days later, in August. So all eyes have turned to its implementation — including the obscure and arcane world of technical standards. Standards are a detailed set of specifications that make it easier for industry to ensure technical compliance with legislation. They have long been used to harmonize technical and safety requirements. Standards have historically flown under the radar, but now have become strategically important. They’re also in a state of flux, with a recent EU court ruling potentially changing the foundation of how standards bodies work.
