With 6 of 9 planetary boundaries now crossed and the World Meteorlogical Organisation reporting 66% likelihood of exceeding the 1.5C threshold in at least one year between 2023 and 2027, I think the more generalised concept of sustainability has served its purpose. The Muinín Catalyst Sustainable STEAM resources and programmes are building the confidence and competencies in our young people using a values-led circular design pedagogy that integrates 5 frameworks and methodologies to support them to adapt for the world they will live in. I am happy to share that I will be teaching a new MIT undergraduate course focusing on climate change through the lens of communication in 2024 at Western University. How can we shift our perspective to view the environment as a dynamic "medium" in its own right rather than a passive backdrop? I had the incredible opportunity to be a part of the International Forum on Higher Education and the Climate Crisis. I was honored to facilitate a breakout session on "Engaging Non-Academics in Climate-Related Research." It was truly inspiring to exchange ideas with numerous scholars and advocates dedicated to tackling the climate crisis. We delved into the importance of collaboration between academia and non-academic stakeholders, sharing success stories, discussing common challenges, and brainstorming innovative solutions. The energy and insights from our discussion were electric! The urgency of the climate crisis requires all hands on deck, and it's evident that our academic institutions play a crucial role. Engaging non-academics is not just a choice; it's a necessity. Let's continue to bridge the gap, learn from one another, and take meaningful actions to combat climate change. I'm thrilled to share the publication of the @IPCC Sixth Assessment Report's teacher summary—a key step in spreading climate science globally. At the Office for Climate Education (OCE), we recognize the pivotal role that educators hold in shaping how future generations comprehend and respond to climate issues. That's why our team of dedicated authors, including experts from diverse fields, has adapted the report's wealth of knowledge into an accessible resource for teachers. This summary offers practical insights for classroom use, empowering the education community to inspire meaningful discussions and actions with their students. As we confront the realities of climate change, education emerges as a powerful tool for developing key competencies for our Youth, such as understanding of complexity, socio-emotional skills and critical thinking. By equipping educators with the tools and knowledge they need, we are investing in the powerful adaptation measure that is education. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this publication, and I encourage all educators to use this valuable resource in their classrooms!

New #EducationforClimate TALK! With that new edition of our Talks, I invite you to listen to David Wilgenbus, Chief executive officer of the Office for Climate Education (OCE). The mission of OCE, which is also a category 2 centre under the auspices of UNESCO, is to support education system worldwide in promoting and implementing climate change education based on solid scientific knowledge (IPCC reports for the most). This is done through various initiatives with 70 different partners in 30 countries so far, communities of practice proving to be a key instrument (point taken). When it comes to climate education, David believes we moved since the last 5 years roughly from awareness raising (and still the need to convince main actors that climate change education has to be integrated in learning), to operational change. In short, we moved from the why to the how, as the education community managed to reach a consensus on the need to act. There are some positive progresses so, and for the most we have many solutions ready (in short, we know what to do). That is encouraging. But some obstacles remain to efficiently implement these solutions. For example, David tells us that a lot of countries are working on integrating climate change to the curricula, which is good, “but often ministries think that once the curriculum is changed, the task is done”. In fact, it is obviously far to be the case. Changing a curriculum is certainly important and not an easy task, but the most important things happen after that start for David (I share that view, and know that I am not the only one), especially teacher’s training, which is key. OCE estimates the amount of hours necessary for a teacher to be really autonomous on climate change topic and be able to implement quality climate change education to 50 to 80 hours of training… Let’s keep that figure in mind, shall we?
