Why #womenintechweek matters: ➡️While women make up 47% of all employed adults in the US, as of 2022, they hold only 28% of computing and mathematical roles. (Women in Tech Network). ➡️The percentage of women in tech leadership roles has fallen to 28% in 2023 (Women in Tech Network). ➡️In 2019, Accenture/Girls Who Code reported that by age 35, 50% of females are leaving tech due to non-inclusive cultures. ➡️Thirty-two (32%) percent of women in technical and engineering roles are often the only women in the room at work (Zippia). ➡️Girls have fewer role models to inspire their interest in these fields, seeing limited examples of female scientists and engineers in books, media, and popular culture. There are even fewer Black women role models in math and science (American Association for University Women). ➡️Black and Hispanic women account for 3% and 2% of the computing workforce. Black, Latina and Native American women (BLNA) representation in the tech workforce has declined by 10% from 2018 – 2022. It's disheartening to hear about the closure of Women Who Code. This organization has connected technologists and provided an unwavering source of support to women in the tech industry since 2011. The network of mentors, advocates, and career connections this community provided has been a true gift to my career. This news serves as an important reminder of the urgent need for greater action and support from both corporations and society to empower women in tech. Creating inclusive spaces where women are not only encouraged but given equal opportunities to succeed is important now more than ever. For women in tech and allies who would like to keep this movement alive, here are other organizations that share a vision of diversity, inclusion, and equity in tech- AnitaB.org, WomenTech Network, Women In Technology (WIT)

🌟 Inspiring Girls to Pursue Careers in Tech: A Dialogue from TechSheCan 🌟 Recently, I asked a question in the "TechSheCan: Women Empowering Women in Technology" Facebook group, to explore methods of introducing STEM careers to young girls in schools. This discussion served as a reminder of our crucial role in molding the future of technology, particularly for women. I inquired about the effectiveness of collaborating with local school systems for events like "Career Day," or organizing presentations to showcase tech careers for women. This inquiry led to a flurry of insightful responses, reflecting our community's collective wisdom and experiences. Marnie Stockman described her involvement with STEM programs in Maryland, noting their ongoing need for business advisors and volunteers. She highlighted the fulfilling experience of judging student capstone projects, illustrating a tangible way to motivate the next generation. Kelly Weber Francisco brought attention to the Great American Teach-In in Florida, akin to Career Day. She observed that while elementary schools often successfully attract speakers, middle and high schools struggle more. This disparity unveils a unique chance for us to influence young minds, particularly in emerging fields like cybersecurity and robotics clubs, which are gaining popularity yet are in need of greater female participation. These discussions transcend mere talk – they represent a call to action for each of us. Whether it's through engagement in local school events, mentorship in clubs, or simply by sharing our own journeys, every action we take is crucial in encouraging young girls to envision themselves as future leaders in tech. As members of this vibrant channel, we hold the power and opportunity to effect change. Let's unite, exchange resources, and proactively search for ways to empower the upcoming generation of women in technology. I'm eager to hear more ideas and stories from my connections here. How have you played a role in guiding girls towards tech careers? Let’s continue this conversation and transform our ideas into impactful actions! And join us in TechSheCan to continue these types of discussions: https://lnkd.in/dnNYMYjW #TechSheCan #WomenInTech #STEMEducation #Empowerment #FutureLeaders

🌟 Today is International Women's Day! 🌟 A day to celebrate the incredible achievements of women around the world. As a woman working in a male-dominated industry, I take great pride in my role and contributions. Yet, I often find myself pondering why this industry (or any other tech industry for that matter) remains predominantly male. The value it brings to the table is undeniable, especially in addressing critical issues like sustainability, off-shoring, and fostering humanitarian working environments – all of which are paramount in today's world. #AdditiveManufacturing (AM) plays a pivotal role in tackling these challenges head-on. So why is there a noticeable lack of women in this field? I'm thankful for organizations like #Womanin3dprinting who are actively working to raise awareness and promote the inclusion of women in the industry. However, it's essential to address the root of the issue, possibly starting at an educational level. When I reflect on elementary education in the Netherlands, I can't help but notice a deficiency in fostering technological interests, not just for girls, but for all children. That's why I'm very excited that AM-Flow together with Additive Center and Marketiger is participating in VHTO Girls' Day on April 11th at Brainport Industries, where we've been paired with Heerbeeck College from Best, alongside the enthusiastic Simone Tekelenburg! Some may question the immediate benefits of such initiatives, but my belief is simple: if we do nothing, nothing will change. I applaud the efforts of various organizations stimulating inclusivity and diversity and am grateful for the opportunity to play my part, generously supported by the company I work for. What are you doing to show girls how great Tech Industry is? Let's continue to empower women and pave the way for a more inclusive and diverse future in the tech industry! 💪👩💻 #InternationalWomensDay #WomenInTech #DiversityandInclusion #IWD24

We need to attract more women to the tech field. To do so, changes must take place — from shifting the perception of what it’s like for women to work in technology, to expanding the understanding of roles and opportunities within the field, one of the biggest steps we can collectively take toward attracting more women to technology is to start early. https://okt.to/jFb39e #TalentAcquisition #WomenLeaders #WLC #WomenInConsulting

As we close out Women's History Month, we're thrilled to spotlight our incredible solution architect, Erika Horton, and dive into discussions about women in civic tech. We asked Erika how Element can further support and empower women in tech roles, especially within healthcare and civic tech domains. Here's what she had to say: Interviewer: Erika, over your career, you've seen the challenges women face in STEM fields. How do you think we can continue supporting and empowering women in tech, particularly in healthcare and civic tech? Erika Horton: Over the past twenty years, I've witnessed firsthand the challenges women face when trying to build careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields. While the situation has gradually improved, with more women entering these industries, we still have work to do to achieve true gender parity. Despite the obstacles, I've found so much fulfillment working in civic tech. Creating software solutions for governments, nonprofits, and socially-conscious businesses allows me to merge my technical skills with my drive to help communities. I think this is a field that can also help inspire and empower more women to pursue careers in STEM by highlighting ways in which these skills can benefit society. The civic tech space tends to emphasize accessibility, diversity, and ethics when developing tech for public good. This culture of inclusiveness can make STEM fields more welcoming for women. Let's keep the conversation going! Share your thoughts on how we can all work together to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for women in tech 🚀 #WomenInTech #WomensHistoryMonth #CivicTech #ElementSolutions #InYourElement

❓ How can we bring more women into tech? That was the main theme of a panel discussion I had the privilege and pleasure of participating in at #CODECON, a few days ago, together with Veronika Pizano, COO of Aj ty v IT. We explored a ton of issues within this complex and multifaceted topic, trying to answer pressing questions like: ✅ How can we improve the current state of women in tech? ✅ How do we break harmful and persistent stereotypes? ✅ Why and when do young girls lose interest in IT, and what does this gap signify? ✅ How do we empower retrained women? From my position at #DellTechnologies, I explained what we do—our initiatives and practical solutions for attracting new female professionals, retaining them, reskilling, training, mentoring, and empowering them at every stage of their career. Through programs like #STEMAspire, we strive to maintain a steady flow of eager, young talent and ensure the transition from academic to corporate is seamless. To me, the message is quite clear—let's continue to champion these initiatives, create an environment where everyone has the opportunity to thrive in tech and let's support organizations like AjTyvIT , they deserve it for their work and contribution to society! Greast event SLOVE, keep up the good work! #WomenInTech #DellTechCEE #iWork4Dell #iwork4dell

The conversation surrounding women in technology is undergoing a significant transformation. According to this BBC article, while the stories of inspiration and success are vital for motivation, they alone are not enough to create lasting change. To truly empower women in tech, companies should shift focus to concrete support systems and actionable strategies that promote inclusivity and growth within the industry. This includes mentorship programs, skill-building workshops, and diverse hiring practices that ensure a welcoming environment for all. By actively working to dismantle barriers and fostering a culture of support, companies can inspire the next generation of female innovators and leaders: https://lnkd.in/eSu2FPDt. Let’s make this a reality together!
