As we celebrate National Community Health Center Week 2024, today, we shine a spotlight on one of the most vital components of our success—our stakeholders. Stakeholder Appreciation Day is an opportunity to recognize and thank the incredible individuals and organizations who contribute to our mission of providing accessible, high-quality healthcare to our communities. Stakeholders are the backbone of our community health efforts. From dedicated staff and board members to community partners, donors, and community leaders, each plays a critical role in our ability to serve those in need. Their unwavering support ensures that we can continue to expand our reach, innovate our services, and improve the overall health and well-being of our communities.

In 2021, after the sudden closure of the SEPTA Somerset El station, residents, community groups, SEPTA employees, elected officials, and neighborhood nonprofits came together to march for Safety and Solutions. This moment for collective action and resistance is an anchor event that has led to our current moment. Historically, outside stakeholders have designed and implemented plans for Kensington and have left residents out of the planning, implementation, and evaluation process. Reversing decades of isolation and disinvestment requires coordination and mobilization of significant resources that are invested to improve the lives of current residents. Co-Creating Kensington, a community-driven planning and implementation process, advocates for just that. Over 650 residents have been coming together to create a shared vision for Kensington so that we can begin to address the historical inequities and intersecting crises together. For the first time, we have an opportunity for community-driven change if everyone can commit to and continue adopting actionable steps to connect a theory of change that centers trauma-informed, participatory, and comprehensive strategies with proposed or implemented intervention strategies for Kensington from government and private sector stakeholders. Learn more about this process at the report Co-Creating Kensington: Alignment, linked in our bio or at https://lnkd.in/eyura-J6.

Did you know that NLC launched the Municipalities Reimagining Community Safety (MRCS) initiative in 2022? With reducing crime being a political priority for many Americans, the MRCS initiative was created to invest in local action to reduce and prevent violence while advancing new visions for safety in communities. One of these visions includes Group Violence Intervention (GVI), an impactful strategy to reimagine public safety. So what does GVI look like? Read our new post — and attend our open meeting on Aug. 22 — to learn more. https://bit.ly/3Aq3I0I

At the Coalition our vision is quality care for all, including those who provide it. But how do we get there? By making professional community health workers (proCHWs) the norm worldwide. We do this with three interconnected tactics to drive systems change. We research to equip international norm setters with evidence to create proCHW guidelines. We advocate to influence global financing institutions to increase proCHW funding. And we activate in-country CHW networks to win national proCHW policy. In our latest blog, and ahead of our upcoming Annual Report, we explore where we won in 2023 and what we hope to achieve together in the new year. What would you add to the list? We would love to hear in the comments! https://lnkd.in/eJMn_iWJ

#WhatWeAreReading 🌉 Community health workers (CHW) are a critical bridge to health access for all. Community Health Impact Coalition's latest annual report outlines how they envision a world where CHWs (70% of which are women) are salaried, skilled, supervised, and supplied. At EYElliance we support this movement, integrating basic eye health and delivery of reading glasses into public community health systems in low- and middle-income countries. Together with a coalition of partners, EYElliance complements and extends government capabilities by providing targeted technical assistance on program design, facilitating training for CHWs, and fully institutionalizing programs within existing government systems. We also support governments’ ability to access large-scale donations and source affordable, quality eyeglasses to support community health worker systems to scale eye health services effectively. #communityhealthworkers #eyehealth #globaldevelopment
At Community Health Impact Coalition (CHIC) we’re making professional community health workers (proCHWs) the norm worldwide by changing guidelines, funding, and policy. The result? proCHWs who are salaried, skilled, supervised, and supplied. And quality care for all, including those who provide it. 2023 was a big year towards this shared vision. We generated high-impact research to equip norm setters with evidence to create proCHW guidelines. We influenced global financing institutions to increase proCHW funding. And we mobilized in-country networks that demand national proCHW policy. Discover more in our 2023 Annual Report, available in English and French. https://lnkd.in/e76eUete
