BCU President & CEO Joe Sobieralski said, “For more than 50 years, BCU has had unrivaled success attracting companies and creating jobs in Battle Creek. This new strategic plan builds on our past success and expands our focus to have the greatest impact on Battle Creek. As the needs of our community change, so too must BCU change in response. Growing our economy today requires that we include more community development, which includes housing, placemaking, and community revitalization. We want to lead on this front and develop a reputation as a leader in Michigan, the Midwest, and the country.” View the full press release as well as a link to view the plan in its entirety here: https://lnkd.in/gu9YgJ_i #economicdevelopment #battlecreek #michigan #strategicplan

Hello All, Let's get real. This project is another masterpiece of Mr. Steven Levene/COO of Metrolinx. The steel span Through Plate Girder over existing Tracks at Newmarket 4.90 Davenport has many structural concerns. Mr. steven leven/(current COO of Metrolinx/ by then VP of RailCiorridor) decided to create a Risk Assessment Team Meeting (on Friday, June 4, 2021 1:30 PM-3:30 PM, ) and chaired this Team meeting. Created +/-35 pages of check marks, and he concluded that: all are good, the Case Closed! The above case was opened by an engineer (Name DELETED] of RailCorridor to begin with. the steel span was a Through Plate Girder, TPG, +/-100 ft long, double track, and amazingly, Direct Fixation. Why Direct Fixation instead of Ballasted Deck? Everyone knows that Direct Fixation will reduce the life-span of the bridge from +100 years to around 30 years. well Metrolinx has the answer!!! Also, the girders have top and bottom flange splices, as well as web splices exactly at the same location: one series on the North side of the span and one series on the south side. the above splices means that the weakest point of the top flange is aligned with the weakest point of the web and aligned with the weakest point of bottom flange, at two separate locations, one on the North side and one on the south side. you do the math!!! If you want more information, please let me know. Also, on September 18th and 19th, 2024, in Louisville, Kentucky, during the Arema Annual Conference, Metrolinx gave a presentation regarding the elevated bridge at Davenport Diamond, Newmarket sub/MX, and New Toronto Sub/(of a real railway). Ironically, Metrolinx did not talk about this portion (steel double track TOG crossing over the existing tracks of another railway) of the project. the bridge designer was not part of the presenter team. The bridge contractor was not part of the presenter team. I doubt that there was even a representative of the actual designer and the actual contractor team at Arema 2024. The people at the Arema Conf. 2024 were asking why? Well, the answer is: there is a series of serious issues with that steel span bridge over the New Toronto Tracks. Stay tuned for more info. @phil verster /CEO Metrolinx Steven Levene/ COO Metrolinx Metrolinx regards Siamak Khajehpour, P.Eng.
Thank you, Davenport community! Join us for ice cream and a visit from GO Bear this Sunday, September 15 from 1-4pm at Campbell Park as we express our gratitude for your support while we completed important Davenport Diamond rail intersection improvements in your neighbourhood.

Chief Executive Officer | Fortune 100 Corporate Board Director, Chair, Compensation Committee | Recipient Skoll Award for Social Innovation
As we continue #HousingFuturesMonth, it's crucial to acknowledge the profound impact of spatial injustice on our communities. Growing up in the 1960s and '70s, I witnessed firsthand how Black neighborhoods across the nation were systematically targeted and torn apart for urban renewal projects and highway construction. In my own hometown of Kansas City, Missouri, the construction of a new freeway fractured our community, displacing many and severing access to opportunity for those who remained. This history, shared by many Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities, underscores the urgent need for change. Reparative spatial justice offers a path to confront these past injustices and design a more equitable future. Across the country, initiatives like the return of ancestral land to the Tongva people in Los Angeles and the housing reparations program in Evanston, Illinois, signal the beginning of a movement towards repair and redress in land and housing policy. Earlier this year at @PolicyLink, we announced our Spatial Futures Fellowship, which aims to uplift those dedicated to this cause, serving as the architects of a new America rooted in love for our communities. These changemakers are not merely critiquing; they are taking bold action to shape our collective future. #SpatialJustice #Reparations #CommunityTransformation Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gQhhVwdZ

I started Camp Patriot at Stevenson High School in 2018 with the goal of (again) putting together a camp program that I can be proud of. We focus on building community, trying new things, and focusing on growth. It sounds like families are happy with us, too. Camp ‘24 ended on Friday and, as of today, we’re 50% full for summer of ‘25.

Something happened to Dearborn County. We used to be the community which let our historic downtowns deteriorate. We ignored -- if not abhorred -- the Ohio River. We didn't see much value in artistic and cultural offerings. We had an aversion to working together. Whether it is the IEDC READI program or the recently relaunched OCRA Stellar Pathways program, we are often told that our communities need to go bigger, bolder, and more transformational with our investments and future planning. If you sit back and take inventory, you will realize Dearborn County is already well down this path. Have you seen East Central High School's new natatorium? The snow-making innovation at Perfect North Slopes? What about the concepts for the City of Lawrenceburg Riverwalk project? Or do we realize the milestone that is the new, state-of-the-art cancer center which St. Elizabeth Healthcare just opened in Greendale? We even have one of the most popular night clubs in the Cincinnati area at Hollywood Casino's Boogie Nights. All this right here in lil' ol' Dearborn County. What got into us? What changed our "Humble Hoosier" mentality? Some might say it is just the result of riverboat gaming or Cincinnati's urban sprawl and population growth spilling over state lines into Dearborn County. If you ask me, it came down to visionary leadership and innovators. People which we at One Dearborn have the fortune to engage with each day. We shouldn't scoff at big ideas which appear beyond our grasp. As our track record shows, with the proper buy-in and prioritization, such ideas are more achievable in Dearborn County and Southeast Indiana than we give ourselves credit for. For Dearborn County to succeed in becoming an Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs #StellarPathways designee, we'll need people of many backgrounds, ideas, and desires for our communities to be thoughtfully engaged. It's a big table. I hope you'll pull up a chair.
The Office of Indiana Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch and OCRA today announced the four finalist regions for the 2024 Stellar Pathways program. Congratulations to the four finalist regions: 🔷 One Dearborn County: Stellar Pathways for Indiana Gateways - includes Dearborn County Economic Development Corp., Dearborn County, Dillsboro and Greendale 🔷 Connect LaGrange County - includes LaGrange County Economic Development Corp., LaGrange County, Town of LaGrange, Shipshewana and Topeka 🔷 Wabash County - includes Wabash County, City of Wabash, North Manchester, Roann, LaFontaine and Lagro 🔷 Warren County Region - includes Warren County and Williamsport For more information, read the full release here: https://lnkd.in/gSacAUxH Thank you to our Stellar Pathways partners Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA), Indiana Department of Transportation, Indiana State Department of Agriculture, Indiana Destination Development Corporation, Indiana Department of Natural Resources and Indiana Department of Health.
