Construction of a new a state-of-the-art building on Mass General’s main campus, the Phillip and Susan Ragon Building, will result in a more than $62M investment in community health through the Massachusetts Determination of Need (DoN) process, the largest such investment in the Commonwealth’s history. These funds will be distributed over the next 8 years, and we are pleased to announce our first round of Community Health Impact Funding awards. 22 local non-profit organizations will receive $18 million to support affordable housing initiatives in Boston and North Suffolk County. “Housing insecurity and substandard housing are strongly linked to health conditions like cardiovascular disease, asthma and chronic stress,” said David Brown, MD, president of Mass General Brigham’s academic medical centers. “We are so pleased for the opportunity to invest in and partner with these community-based organizations offering life- and health-altering solutions to the housing crisis in Suffolk County.” These innovative proposals are focused on a variety of equity-based efforts including production and preservation of affordable housing, policy and advocacy, and eviction prevention. Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands and Japan and other Democratic capitalistic nations ensure access for all their citizens to quality affordable private insured and private fee for service manufactured medical care at a fraction of the cost of America’s insurance centric healthcare mess with better outcomes and costs and more hospitals per capita than in America. That's a wonderful initiative.👍. Even in Japan, AbbVie ‘s head office building turned on blue light during April, ( https://lnkd.in/gm-qzVKN ) but about other activities they only said "we didn't know" when I talked to them. And they also said that they would been banned to be direct to patients. Is it difficult in Japan? If they start doing it all over the world, I feel sorry leaving the sponsor only to abbvie. It is great to see the construction progress after all the planning and design.

As someone who’s family has been impacted by ALS, Toronto Star, Janice Kennedy understands the importance of ALS Society of Canada community services and equipment. Working in concert with multi-disciplinary ALS clinics, these services are critical to the quality of life of a person living with ALS and their caregivers. The $6.6m investment in the Ontario Provinvial ALS Program is a fraction of the costs to the healthcare system when people end up in crisis in the hospital or must choose long-term care when they can’t safely stay in their home. We will continue to advocate to the Ontario government to implement this impactful, cost-effective solution to improve the quality of life for people affected by ALS. https://lnkd.in/gE5P9qh5

However, past experiences have demonstrated that implementing monitoring and surveillance systems without prioritising human rights can have devastating effects on vulnerable people. Therefore, it is crucial to conduct thorough human rights assessments before deploying new tech to determine its potential impact on personal liberty, privacy, and dignity. In social care, there is rarely a one-size-fits-all solution, as what works well for one person may be rights breaching for another. It is essential to adopt a human rights-based approach to care planning the use of tech to ensure that it enhances person-centered care rather than infringes on rights.
