While population descriptors like race are social constructs, in genomics research they have a long history of being identified as the reason for differences among groups. A group of biomedical journal editors recently announced new guidance for how biomedical researchers should use race, ethnicity, and ancestry labels in their published work. The guidance is based largely on recommendations from a recent National Academies report, which states that using race as a surrogate for describing human genetic differences can be misleading and inaccurate at best and harmful at worst. NanoTIPSeq - A new tool in genetics: A method developed by the Han Lab, effectively tracks L1 retrotransposon activity in mice, essential for studying genetic variations in #disease models.
