Hospitals, as the primary culprits of greenhouse gas emissions in the global healthcare industry, consume 2.6 times more energy than other commercial buildings and churn out a staggering 13,000 tons of waste daily. Gensler’s Bonny Slater, Randy Guillot, FAIA LEED AP, and Geoffrey Diamond pose the question of what a sustainable hospital could look like in minimizing environmental impact and integrating into local communities. https://bit.ly/3W7JkZB #Healthcare #HospitalDesign #SustainableDesign

The statistic of hospitals producing 13,000 tons of waste daily is staggering. This emphasizes the necessity for robust recycling programs, composting initiatives, and waste minimization strategies. Hospitals could significantly cut down on waste by using reusable medical supplies, reducing packaging, and segregating waste for more effective recycling. Even Oasis has supported such a way to reduce one time use plastic uses for drinking water.

Very informative, Gensler! We appreciate your focus on sustainability and patient-centered care and your efforts to integrate advanced technologies to enhance functionality and well-being. 👏

Thoughtful integration of daylight not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also promotes a healthier, more welcoming environment for patients and staff. The use of transparent and semi-transparent materials further optimizes light diffusion, creating a bright and airy atmosphere that supports the overall well-being of its occupants.

wow I didn't know that. I wonder how that intersects with healthcare's rising percent of GDP in the US.

Impressive insights on the environmental impact of hospitals. Incorporating these principles not only benefits the environment but also creates spaces that positively impact communities.

And…be a part of the health and healing of the patients. Those sterile environments aren’t helping anyone IJS. :)

Embracing sustainable hospital design is vital for reducing energy consumption and waste. Innovative solutions can significantly lower emissions, benefiting both the environment and local communities. Great Job Gensler team #Healthcare #HospitalDesign #SustainableDesign

We are in a climate emergency❗️ We all should implement such sustainable designs.
