Postdoc at Technical University of Munich - Remote Sensing and AI for Sustainability

🌍 Very proud of my fellow organizers, Lía López and Nianhua Liu, for their outstanding efforts in making this event a success. A big thanks to our amazing photographer, Stephanie Tumampos, for capturing all the memorable moments, to our colleagues @Dr. Holger Kumke, Mengyi Wei, Dongsheng Chen, Celina Thomé from HeiGIT, and our mentor Prof. liqiu meng for providing their full support. Also, a big shout-out to @Paula Villar, @Jose Arce, Isabell Klipper, and Leonie Engemann for their special talks and tutorials about OpenStreetMap, YouthMappers, and more. Their insights and expertise were invaluable. We were thrilled to receive such a high level of interest - our event was overbooked on Eventbrite, and we had to make way to involve more students. Thank you to all our enthusiastic participants for making this event so special! Last year, I was inspired by PoliMappers at Politecnico di Milano, where they regularly organize amazing events, mentored by Prof. Maria Antonia Brovelli. Federica Gaspari's insights were particularly motivating me and this led me to bring this to #TUM. Here at TUM School of Engineering and Design (ED), we have a wide range of excellent study programs with many international students in geospatial fields, such as Cartography (https://lnkd.in/dmQPyAd8), Geodesy and Geoinformation (https://lnkd.in/d2-fmS26), ESPACE – Earth Oriented Space Science and Technology (https://lnkd.in/dzkm3x67), Land Management and Geospatial Science (https://lnkd.in/dSkJjy8Z), and many more (https://lnkd.in/dYGZP-VE). It is a perfect place to share and collaborate ideas of citizen science, volunteer mapping, and democratizing spatial data; and to encourage people to map for their community and for regions lacking commercial services or governmental resources. I was not the only one excited about it - we have an amazing team at TU Munich. And we, YouthMappers at TU Munich, are not the only ones on the mission. Special thanks to our partners: Geoawesome, Deutsches Rotes Kreuz, and Runder Tisch E.V. (https://lnkd.in/dHAa7fPe), and another amazing YouthMappers chapter YouthMappers UNA (https://lnkd.in/dMDqsb-m), who share the same ideas and dedication, and also co-organized the event with us. We're excited to organize more Mapathons in the future. We look forward to more events and fruitful collaborations. We hope to see more students participating in future mapping campaigns by Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team, UN Mappers, and more. Let's continue making a difference! 🌍

I create efficient maps to improve user performance | Maps UI/UX Researcher | MR Cartographer | Doctoral Candidate at TU Munich

On July 22, YouthMappers at TU Munich, in collaboration with Geoawesome, Deutsches Rotes Kreuz (German Red Cross), and Runder Tisch E.V., organized a successful #Mapathon event. With 21 enthusiastic participants, we made 1,312 map edits and mapped 1,198 buildings through the TeachOSM (#1615) task. Isabell Klipper from the German Red Cross provided an insightful keynote on GRC’s use of OpenStreetMap for disaster preparedness and risk reduction. She also gave us a tutorial about how to map appropriately. Leonie Engemann gave a brief introduction about Runde Tisch GIS e.V. #RundertischGIS is one of the largest volunteer-organized networks on geoinformation in Germany. They also have a Young Professionals group. Paula Villar and Jose Arce from YouthMappers at the National University of Asunción shared how the YouthMappers Global Network benefits their work and enhances their use of OSM. Congratulations to Parinda Pannoon, Simon Tong, and Franck KENNETH, who won the mapping contest! A huge thank you to all contributors. The Mapathon at TU Munich was about more than just creating maps; it was about building a community and making a real impact in humanitarian efforts and disaster response. For us, mapping is a passion and a way to make a difference. Stay tuned for our next Mapathon event! #Mapathon #YouthMappers #GIS #HumanitarianMapping #OSM #OpenStreetMap #MissingMaps #GRC #GermanRedCross #Geoawesome
