STATEMENT BY THE GEORGE & BARBARA BUSH FOUNDATION:
The George & Barbara Bush Foundation joins our fellow Americans in mourning the innocent life that was lost tonight in Butler, Pennsylvania — and in sending our prayers to President Trump and his family and the other rally attendees who were injured. We are grateful to the United States Secret Service for their quick response.
We also join our fellow Americans in condemning this senseless violence, which can have no place in our political process. This great Nation, which so many have fought and died to preserve, deserves better.
Violence has no place in politics. My condolences to the family and friends of the innocent life that was lost. May god comfort them and may their memory be a blessing.
The littlest things can be forever changed by your generosity. Help them to grow up to be all that they can be.

Welcome to the Ultimate Showdown: Conning Conundrum Syndrome vs. Trump Derangement Syndrome!
In one corner, we have... Conning Conundrum Syndrome (CCS)!
- Symptoms: Unshakable loyalty, denial reflex, and the blame game shuffle. Victims insist they haven't been conned by Trump and Putin, despite overwhelming evidence that could make a blindfolded jury shout "Guilty!"
And in the other corner, we have... Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS)!
- Symptoms: Uncontrollable eye-rolling at the mention of Trump, spontaneous fits of fact-checking, and an intense urge to debunk every tweet. Accused sufferers vehemently oppose Trump, sometimes with a fervor that rivals a sports fan during the playoffs.
CCS - "Conning Conundrum Syndrome" is like having a GPS that stubbornly refuses to recalibrate. You're headed for a cliff, but it keeps saying, "Turn right in 100 feet." You’re convinced the destination is glorious, but spoiler alert: it’s a steep drop into reality.
TDS - "Trump Derangement Syndrome" is like having a highly sensitive radar that detects every single Trump-related blip, no matter how small. You’re hyper-aware of every move, comment, and typo, often resulting in high blood pressure and a sudden urge to tweet.
Denial vs. Obsession
- CCS: "No way, Trump’s perfect!"
- TDS: "No way, Trump’s terrible!"
Blame Game vs. Blame Flame
- CCS: "What about those emails?"
- TDS: "What about that tax return?"
Loyalty vs. Paranoia
- CCS: "Trump could do no wrong."
- TDS: "Trump can do no right."
The Hilarious Hypocrisy:
- CCS sufferers are like fans at a magic show, utterly convinced that the magician’s tricks are real, while TDS sufferers are the skeptics yelling, "I see the wires!"
- CCS Remedy: "Come on, admitting you've been conned isn't that bad. Think of it like realizing the magician pulls rabbits out of hats, not thin air."
- TDS Remedy: "Hey, take a breath. Sometimes it’s okay to let a tweet pass by without a full investigation. Not every blip is a bombshell."
In the grand scheme of things, both CCS and TDS could use a little bit of perspective, a dash of humor, and a lot less stress. After all, life’s too short to be stuck in a syndrome, right?
So, whether you’re staunchly defending or constantly critiquing, remember to laugh along the way. Because in the end, we’re all just trying to navigate this crazy world, one conundrum at a time.
OK I know this isn't a political forum, but I have to say this to a large audience, as Memorial Day has brought this to my attention. To wit, " in November 2018 when then-President Trump called the U.S. Marines who died at Belleau Wood “suckers” and the American soldiers buried at Aisne-Marne American Cemetery “losers.”" These are WW1 Vets, btw.
My Great Uncle is buried at the American Cemetery in Epinal France. He is a decorated (Purple Heart) recepient from WW2. But according to Donald Trump he is a loser. Even though he fought his way up from Italy.
He didn't want to go. He was originally defered. But he left his new wife and went anyway. Everyone, all the 'losers and suckers' were going. And he died in combat. He had a premonition that would happen. I know 'cus he told his brother, who was my Grandpa, who told me (that was before you could get out of the service with bone spurs).
If you have a consicious, If you believe you are an American, if you believe in the future of America in the 21st Century, and having America respected across the globe, if you believe the men and women who serve our great country are NOT LOSERS or SUCKERS, as this president has said, but heroes, then you simply cannot vote for Trump. It's an easy argument. If you really believe in America you can't vote for him. He doesn't respect you, me, or those who have died for our freedoms. You can't vote trump into office. You can't put a criminal in the same house that Abraham Lincoln and FDR inhabited. You just can't. There is no other choice, If you love America, and all it's citizens, you can't vote for trump.
The thing about this is that the people don’t have control. So talking to us about it does nothing except expect us to hold the government accountable. That kind of checks and balances can only be managed from within (the gov). Those are the kinds of conversations and issues that the budget specialists of those days should have dove into. We needed to pay people to rebalance the budget starting at zero through each department. Instead they add and add to the annual base. “If dept doesnt spend $ they won’t get $ allocated to them” it’s become a running motto for governmental spending. Who is going to be the one to throw up their hands and “say we don’t need more“ ?
trillions of dollars in debt and have millions of people who still have no skill set, can’t afford decent homes plus all of their bills and food… we don’t have to go to the slums of Asia or Africa to see poverty. We can’t even control it here in our own country. What are we suppose to do about government over-spending? Really, what are our options? demand a balanced budget or what?
#OnThisDay in 1985, President Ronald Reagan recognized that the size of the deficits has captured the attention of everyone. He believed that this could be a moment when we transcend party lines and remember that we are citizens of this country with a shared responsibility. The situation is critical, reaching crisis proportions, and calls for permanent changes to the built-in spending increases. Together, as responsible citizens, we can face this challenge and fulfill our duty to secure a better future for our nation. #UnitedWeStand#Responsibility#NationalDuty
In light of recent events and the troubling news about former President Trump, it's clear that our nation stands at a critical crossroads. The divisions we face today echo the time when our country was on the brink of civil war. The intense polarization, the breakdown of civil discourse, and the growing distrust among fellow Americans are all reminiscent of the pre-Civil War era.
We must seek common ground, and work towards our more perfect union.
Lifting up my relative General John Fulton Reynolds on this Memorial Day (along with the connection between the Civil War and civil rights). A respected senior commander in the Union Army, Reynolds was key in committing the Army to the Battle of Gettysburg (where he unfortunately died).
Resistant to the politics of Washington, D.C., Reynolds previously declined President Abraham Lincoln’s request that he command the Army of the Potomac (the penchant to buck bureaucracy remains strong in his family). Today, you can see him standing resolutely in places throughout Pennsylvania (including in front of Philadelphia’s City Hall).
Many think that the Civil War was a long ago moment in time - separate and apart from who we are today. Columbia University Professor Barbara Fields corrects this misguided notion:
“I think what we need to remember, most of all, is that the Civil War is not over until we, today, have done our part in fighting it, as well as understanding what happened when the Civil War generation fought it.
William Faulkner said once that history is not “was,” it’s “is,” and what we need to remember about the Civil War is that the Civil War “is,” in the present, as well as the past.
The generation that fought the war, the generation that argued over the definition of the war, the generation that had to pay the price in blood, that had to pay the price in blasted hopes and a lost future also established a standard that will not mean anything until we finish the work.
You can say there’s no such thing as slavery anymore, we’re all citizens. But if we’re all citizens, then we have a task to do to make sure that that, too, is not a joke. If some citizens live in houses and others live on the street, the Civil War is still going on. It’s still to be fought, and regrettably, it can still be lost.”
