Founder | Creative Director | Brand Strategist | Musician | Helping businesses make deeper connections through creative strategy and sonic design
I got so emotional watching this production come to life. It was unreal! Never in my career have I felt so moved.... and can I be honest with you?? This year for me has been full of ups and downs. It's the struggle of being a business owner, entrepreneur, founder, creative and artist. I am loving all of it... However this project was up there with one of the best moments in my professional career to date. Here's why: 1. The sole purpose of the project was to create more access for inhibited people to enjoy beautiful art and incredible talent, through the lens of hip-hop and sound (audio description). Simply amazing! 2. So many of the skills that I've sharpened over the years, and that many companies didn't deem valuable, came into their own within a world class institution, Royal Ballet and Opera. And this ultimately took a world class production further. Self worth re-instated at a time I really needed it. 3. Immersion amongst true creative expression and people who get it. From set design, song writing, topic development (focused on mental health), music, dance, production and more. It's powerful combination and when I attended press night... I welled up because I knew what it meant to the cast and team to bring this to life. It was beyond magical. ZooNation: The Kate Prince Company you really killed it! 4. The challenge. Audio description was ultimately a new avenue for me, but something I knew I could do. With experience within theatre, script writing, and working as a pro musician, this was a challenge I was confident to approach. Through this, I have levelled up and opened up a new avenue for myself and Acre Green which is tremendous. Couldn't have done it without my P.I.C Alice Gilmour This clip was taken from rehearsals about 2 weeks prior to the opening night, and the cast at every moment were giving their all to the detail of the show. As the song says... You CAN feel it, and I'm honoured to work in the business of creating feeling and emotions that moves people towards positive change. Sound, art and culture are all so powerful. The more brands and businesses that use it effectively, will surely future proof themselves. More from Acre Green to come very soon... #Royaloperahouse #acregreen #linburytheatre #audiodescription #zoonation #madhattersteaparty

I had the pleasure of attending a workshop with Datta Patil and Sachin Shinde on September 23, 2024. Their extensive experience in writing and directing theatre truly inspired us all. The session began with Sachin guiding us through a few body relaxation exercises. Initially, I found myself puzzled about how this related to theatre and the purpose of these exercises in a workshop. Afterward, we played an engaging game that involved pairs exploring the area, with one partner blindfolded. The twist was that the sighted individual could only guide their partner through touch, without using any verbal cues. It was exhilarating! By the midpoint of the workshop, I began to realize just how crucial it is for a theatre artist to possess control over their body. Directing a play or telling a story ultimately starts with our breath, our physical presence, and our thoughts—it was a revelation. Next, we closed our eyes for a different activity in which we were invited to envision our dream destination, our ideal companion, and the most sorrowful moment in our lives. As they played a haunting melody in the background, we were drawn deeper into our reflections. Many participants shared their thoughts, and it felt as though we were all unveiling the struggles that had shaped us, the energy we had mustered to arrive at who we are today. As a budding theatre artist, it gave me goosebumps to realize that despite everything we've endured, the artist within us endures and thrives. We find ways to create our stories, shaping them in ways that resonate with others. Datta Patil shared his wealth of experience, and while I expected him to teach us explicit techniques for writing or directing, he simply advised, "Write what you want, whenever you want." You'll discover your own unique style. Sachin echoed this sentiment while leading the session, encouraging us to "act however you wish, and don't overthink it." Hearing these two remarkable individuals emphasize the importance of freedom in theatre, of releasing our mental constraints, had a profound impact on me. Theatre is not just enjoyable; it's become an addiction for me. Learning these foundational aspects of theatre has deepened my passion for the art. I can’t imagine ever giving up on writing and acting. #writing #acting #workshop #datta_patil #sachin_shinde #ihc #altamas_hall #theatre #creator

I enjoyed presenting at this event facilitated by lead researcher Dr Libby Worth from Royal Holloway University. A brilliant “Dancing Dialogues” conversation with community leaders, researchers and practitioners of community dances. Discussions flowed around negotiating embodied identity, “Englishness”, how folk dance is linked to territory, what consists of amateur V professional performers, and, of course, the eternal question of funding. In the visible hierarchy of the dance sector, folk dances are perhaps a poorly watered root of a very big tree. More than ever, we realized the need for community, in a post-covid world. It's easy to forget that community groups are often the first point of contact towards developing a love for dance. Even top performers, like Marcelino Sambe - principal dancer at the Royal Ballet- had a brief passage with local traditional African dance group Batoto Yetu in Portugal. The generosity of time and knowledge, shared by these community dance groups leaders, is probably unmatched in a cut-throat "professional" dance space. Acknowledging the importance of flexibility in discussions about territory and cultural ownership is vital, albeit we need to refrain from rigid perspectives while being cautious not to encroach upon cultural appropriation. It’s important to remember that even dance forms like the maypole dances that appear to be the epitome of Englishness only need you to delve into it a little further to discover its presence in various Caribbean traditions as well as in Congolese processions, as described by the late eminent researcher Robert F. Thompson. And, of course, the perennial issue of arts funding serves as a poignant reminder, as the latest policies from the Arts Council England (ACE) unveiled, that censorship is, once again, hitting the arts hard. It's time to get creative! For those who heavily rely on this funding to create art or express themselves, those community dance tree roots will be watered with a lot of…added chemicals.

Doctor Turned Storyteller | Storytelling for Impact | Bridging Art & Knowledge to Solve Challenges Creatively, Sustainably, Empathetically
It Takes an Army to Create Art: I’m part of the Theatre Gargantua TD Emerging Theatre Artist Roundtable this year. My intention to join was simple: make new artist friends. Around 10 emerging artists were selected to be part of sessions where we get mentorship, share resources and have profound discussions on how to create art sustainably and collaboratively. So much about storytelling through art—notably film and theatre—usually requires an army to make. Finding this army is I think the hardest part of professional art making. I’ve had experiences where I find the right people but the external circumstances do not allow for a collaboration. Or I find people and discover a little too late that while we were speaking the same language, we were speaking in entirely different dialects. I had a mentor joke that finding creative partnerships is harder than finding a romantic partner. In other fields the collaborative project is a bit more objective and standardized. Metrics and scopes are set. The process is concrete. When it comes to creating art together, especially art that changes the world, it’s a little less so. The process of creation needs to foster trust and vulnerability to co-create bravely. #emergingartist #creativeprocess #storytelling #theatre

Twyla Tharp: dancer, choreographer, innovator, author, woman. While many of us may know her Broadway hit, Movin' Out, we may not know her name or the long list of groundbreaking work she's produced. She is a master! If you're looking to stretch your creative abilities, then you need to read "The Creative Habit." I have no excuse for why it's taken me 21 years to finally dive into this book, but I'm so glad I did. Tharp explains creativity, collaboration, productivity, resilience, and boldness in a way that anyone can follow and provides exercises that anyone - dancer and non-dancer alike - can practice. Don't miss out on this opportunity to enhance your creative potential. Find your copy of "The Creative Habit" at one of my favorite local shops here: https://lnkd.in/gp9uqAJa #TwylaTharp #womenwholead #learnhername #innovation #creativity

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to participate in a transformative body training workshop tailored for actors. Despite its simplicity, the session uncovered some fundamental mistakes often overlooked in our craft. It's remarkable how something as basic as maintaining proper alignment and gaze can significantly impact our performances. During the workshop, we delved into the nuances of gaze and body alignment—two pillars essential for any actor. We discussed how societal norms often lead us to cast our eyes downward, rather than maintaining a direct and upright posture. Learning to train our gaze to encompass a 180-degree angle demands conscious effort, yet it's indispensable for cultivating a commanding stage presence. Equally vital was the emphasis on body alignment. Ensuring an even distribution of weight enables us to move fluidly across the stage, effectively conveying the emotions and traits of our characters. It's these foundational principles that lay the groundwork for compelling performances. As actors, it's imperative that we commit to practicing these fundamentals daily until they become second nature. It's through dedication and persistence that we refine our craft and elevate our artistry to new heights . . . . . #movement #bodytrainning #theatre #workshop #learnunlearn #actors #practise

The People Choreographer®...disrupting tradition, creating inclusive workplace communities 🪩 HR/People Consultant 🪩 Speaker🪩 Charities & Ethical Organisations 💌 rachel@peoplechoreographer.co.uk 📞 07876 207054
When finding the right dance partner🕺💃 you have to think about two things:- 1️⃣ What do they bring to the dance team? What skills have they learnt, what gives them that flair? 2️⃣ How would they fit with the Team? What is their vibe? How will their energy fizz with mine? Are they adaptable? ❓Isn’t this exactly how you should approach recruitment in your organisations? When you put out an advert, you set the tone and the beat, with the interview you are checking their rhythm, their technical competencies and their motivations and future aspirations. You are also checking they are perfectly suited to join the chorus line. That they have the potential to be the star of the show and also be a poised supporter in the line dance. The complex synergy of work / dance at its best. The People Choreographer®️ is here to make sure you tango through recruitment, bringing along all the best (even your competitors best 😱 assets) to your performance so that you can go beyond recruitment as we know it and bring the flair 💃🕺🪩 Check out my latest Blog for more dance themed info: https://lnkd.in/emtJ6-y6 #RecruitmentTips #PeopleChoreographer #SkillsAndAttributes
