Foundation stone laid for new townhouse in Ahlen 'Elegant and subtle in its intricacies' The foundation stone for the new town hall in Ahlen was laid on 13 May 2024 as the first phase of the new civic campus. This was preceded by a planning phase that involved the active participation of local residents. The structure of the elongated, angled building block responds to its special location between the Werse riverside promenade and Ahlen's historic town wall. From the building, which is divided into sections of different heights, you can enjoy the view of the neighbouring city park and the historic old town. Mayor Dr Alexander Berger (2nd from right) particularly emphasised the energy efficiency and quality of the space and usage concept of the new building, which is designed to meet contemporary needs and is due to be occupied in 2026.

Hi all, IBAVI (Balearic Housing Institute) has built 19 Social housing units in Palma. "The global solution for both buildings and public space aims to encourage residents to go out 'a la fresca’ on summer nights, with chairs and 'rockers', and is an example for recovering the model of the Mediterranean city, dense, compact, low-rise and equipped with public spaces that reduce the 'heat island' effect." The relation of the building with the place where it is located is a recurrent argument in our work. To complete, to dialogue, sometimes with distance... but always trying to finish it. https://lnkd.in/dzh6gtwP #mateoarquitectura #residence #housing #landscapearchitecture #location

Town Square ++ [the art of building cities] The importance of the town square as a central hub of public life. The design of public buildings in relation to the town square is important for creating a sense of unity and coherence in the urban environment. The squares are usually surrounded by public buildings such as churches, government buildings, and markets, which serves as focal points for social and civic activities. This layout encourages people to come together, interact with one another, and participate in public events and celebrations. -- The design of the square and its surrounding public buildings plays a crucial role in shaping the public life of the city.

𝐀 𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐰𝐨 𝐔𝐫𝐛𝐚𝐧 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐬: 𝐍𝐘 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐞𝐡𝐫𝐚𝐧 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐧 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐤 Though similar in size, Tehran's Pardisan Park and New York's Central Park tell contrasting stories. While Central #Park beckons visitors to stroll, discover, and connect with nature, Pardisan Park stands almost unplanned. Pardisan was originally designed by the Wallace McHarg Roberts & Todd Institute in Pennsylvania during the reign of the last Shah of #Iran. The project was halted after the 1979 Revolution and remains largely undeveloped. Spanning over 270 hectares in a prime location in northwest #Tehran, Pardisan Park holds the potential to promote a healthy lifestyle and create a vibrant environment. We have yet to make use of this opportunity. In contrast, Central Park in New York City has a rich history. Development began in the mid-19th century, led by landscape architects Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux, culminating in its completion in 1876. Despite challenges, ongoing efforts have preserved and restored Central Park. Today, Central Park stands as a beloved urban oasis, attracting approximately 42 million visitors annually and holding the title of the most visited urban park in the United States. #UrbanPlanning #UrbanPark #GreenSpace

Cities are equally about what happens in between the buildings, and how they relate to each other and to civic experience. The growth of resort-esque developments with abundant private amenities addresses a demand but doesn’t contribute to the urban energy needed to create a sense of place and belonging. Only good urbanism can accomplish that. Read more of my thoughts in my latest op-ed for Miami Today Newspaper: https://lnkd.in/eMRfcNvZ

Work is continuing at pace on the transformational €15million Balbriggan Quay Street and Harbour project. A a number of key milestones have been passed. The stunning and complex project will create a high quality public amenity and premier visitor destination. It will revitalise Ireland’s youngest town. It will also create a unique, sustainable public open space. The 19,300 square metre site will include a multi-purpose plaza area and linear park suitable for markets, events, festivals and a host of other activities. Following the commencement of work in May, phase one has seen works at the Upper Town Centre Car Park at Mill Street commence and it will reopen at the end of October. The first stage of footpath works at Mill Street is complete. Footpath works are continuing along Mill Street and are expected to be fully completed in November. Works at the south side of the River Bracken river wall are nearing completion and works on the north side will commence soon. Enhancement works to the Bracken River within the existing open space between Quay Street and Mill Street, including widening of the water course, will encourage biodiversity. The biodiversity and environmental, archaeological and ecological impact of the work is being closely monitored. A work compound has been established at the foot of the Harbour’s East Pier. Site works and construction has commenced on the Harbour block buildings and is expected to be complete by July, 2025. Work on replacing the toilet block with a modern facility, and the refurbishment of the RNLI boathouse, is expected to be complete in June 2025. Temporary toilets will be installed and will be in place throughout construction. Resurfacing of the Link Road and the Plaza, to be extended under the Viaduct, is expected to finish in September, 2025. Fingal County Council is working with the local community, businesses and stakeholders to mitigate any negative impacts during all works, expected to the completed by the end of 2025. #balbriggan #balbrigganharbour #fingal #construction #urbanplanning #architecture Our Balbriggan Balbriggan Chamber of Commerce Department of Rural and Community Development Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage
