Reflections on the EOSC Symposium 2024 in Berlin: A convergence of minds and momentum: The EOSC Symposium 2024 in Berlin was an absolute highlight of the year! 🌟 With 460 participants on-site and almost the double online, we had the amazing opportunity to exchange ideas, collaborate, and dive deep into the future of open science. The conversations around the EOSC Federation and the critical role of the EOSC EU node were particularly exciting, showing just how much momentum we're gaining in building a truly connected research infrastructure across Europe. For me, it was such a pleasure to see so many familiar faces 😊—reconnecting with colleagues and friends and meeting new ones. The sense of community within the EOSC space is growing stronger each year. We discussed at length the sustainability of our projects, which is now more vital than ever. Ensuring EOSC's long-term viability is key, and I could feel the commitment and passion from everyone involved to make it a reality. 🚀 The collaboration between Member States, institutions, and individuals is what truly powers this initiative. Every session was buzzing with energy ⚡, and the corridor chats were filled with brilliant ideas, innovative solutions, and shared visions of the future. I’m leaving Berlin feeling more inspired than ever by the progress we’ve made and the exciting possibilities ahead. 💡 This symposium was more than just a meeting—it was a true testament to the dedication of the entire EOSC community. Happy Friday and welcome to my third prediction for the #idp market in 2024: #sustainability is becoming an important dimension in the purchase decision for #informationmanagement solutions. Climate change is one of the major macro trends that has a far-reaching impact. It is a major topic in political discussions related to strategies to accomplish #climate goals and the trade-offs required in particular from a cost perspective. The #carbonfootprint is also a major decision criterion in businesses and organizations – in particular in Western Europe. When purchasing office equipment #energyefficiency is a decision criterion and in particular the public sector is very interested in refurbished machines. When an organization automates and/or optimizes a business process, the environmental impact is increasingly one of the considerations. There are a multitude of aspects to be considered in information intensive processes, ranging from the transportation and #digitization of paper-based inputs to the computing power involved in the processing and the storage of documents and data. #Government organizations need to provide guidance on the #environmentalimpact of the different approaches for Information #capture and Management. Vendors need to get ready to address questions from their clients and prospects when assessing solutions and strategies, not only when they involve the use of #llms .
