May IR Kapihan 🌱 Exploring the Heart of Agriculture: A Reflection on Sector Vulnerability and Empowerment in the Philippine Context. In a thought-provoking discussion titled 'The Hows and Whys of Sector Vulnerability,' we delved deep into the intricacies of employment dynamics within Philippine agriculture. With esteemed speakers including Ms. Jessica Reyes-Cantos, President of Action for Economic Reforms (AER) and Senior Policy Adviser for Agriculture and Food Security, alongside Mr. Nonoy Ty, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Pasali Philippines Foundation, Inc., the conversation was enriched with diverse perspectives. Ms. Elle Fullido, 2022 PMAP President, set the stage with insightful opening remarks, while Mr. Adrian Godwin Perez, Chairperson of the PMAP LPRIR Committee, guided the event as our gracious host. Facilitating the discourse was Ms. Cecille Ramos-Carlos, Managing Director of Creative Lines Architectural and Interior Designs, and a stalwart member of PMAP's LPRIR, FLP, and BMC Committee. Together, they navigated through the complexities of agricultural employment, shedding light on crucial topics affecting our rural communities. From the significance of solar-powered irrigation systems, as championed by Mr. Ty's endeavors with Lorentz pumps, to the intricacies of rice milling and trading highlighted by Ms. Cantos, each insight illuminated pathways toward a more resilient and empowered agricultural sector. As we conclude this enlightening dialogue, let us carry forward these insights, working hand in hand to foster sustainable growth and prosperity within Philippine agriculture. #AgricultureTalks #EmpoweringCommunities #MayIRKapihan #PMAP2024

The most recent installment of EESI's briefing series, “IRA and IIJA Progress Report,” explored programs that are uniquely designed for rural communities, as well as the remaining barriers preventing these communities from accessing IIJA and IRA support. In case you missed it, detailed summary notes are now available. You can also save 🔖 and share ↪ this graphic of key takeaways: 🚜 The United States has not seen major investments in rural America like those from the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 (IRA) and Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) since the 1930s. 🚜 Twenty-five percent of large-scale clean energy projects announced in the first year of the IRA were located in rural areas. This $20 billion investment went toward more than 50 projects across 21 states. 🚜 Through the IRA, the U.S. Department of Agriculture is providing about $20 billion to advance conservation practices such as cover crops, minimal tilling, and crop rotation. 🚜 The well-being of wildlife and fish populations is intertwined with rural and agricultural communities, especially because of migration patterns. The IIJA and IRA invest in habitat connectivity. Tap the link to view the full notes or to watch the briefing again: https://lnkd.in/dShu4ypw #ICYMI #Webinar #IRA #IIJA #RuralAmerica #Agriculture

The recently published 💻 🌳 Digital Agriculture Strategy that spans from 2024 to 2030 provides a detailed roadmap into the future of digitalization of agriculture. The document goes into great detail about all of the main entry points into the digitalization of agriculture, one of them is especially important in my opinion. Digitalization of the seed sector is one of the most critical aspects of the agriculture sector. The seed sector is the heart of productivity and sustainability, and integrating digital approaches in this regard can promote the development of the sector through the whole seed value chain ( 🔄 seed traceability , 🏷 quality assurance, as well as 💡 innovation in the area of 🌿 breeding, 🚚 distribution, ⚖ seed regulatory affairs, 👩🌾 farm management etc). By integrating this important entry point into the sector, we may gain opportunities to optimize the whole food system as a data-driven ecosystem. 💽 💾 📈 🕧 There are quite a few benefits to this approach, and there are instances in Africa where these technologies has provided a good proof of concept. For example #Seedcast #seedtracker #STTSUganda and a very few more have started to take traction. The list is not big though, as often these interventions take a "context-based" approach, rather than a "systems level" approach. But if a systems level approach is taken, with the help of strategies like the DAS, integration of digitalization in this sector would start the whole systems’ data-driven approach. 🌏 It is critical at this point to lead and spearhead some collaborative efforts between organizations, having experience in developing digital systems targeting seeds, government, and private and public Research, to assess bottlenecks and inventorize aspirations. It is important for stakeholders from the seed sector to come to a dialogue and invest or share knowledge on innovation to drive the sector forward in terms of digital transformation. That is my main entry point solution that focuses the dialogues on the potential of digitalization of agriculture. The #ISSDAfrica conference this month in Addis Ababa will host a few sessions scoping the #seedsectordigitalization under fragile and conflict context. Feel free to 📣 discuss how we could help each other with a focus on 🌿 📶 seed sector digitalization within the framework of the presented strategy. 🚜 #Agrifood | Georgia, Ukraine, Malawi and The World Bank are interested in the Navarra Canal to replicate its management and development model The facility, a strategic reference point for the region, has attracted the attention of these international agents due to its innovative management of a scarce resource such as water. The foreign delegations visiting Navarre also valued the positive impact it has had on the development of the agri-food industry, one of the main drivers of development and wealth in the region. For this reason, they were particularly interested in learning about the economic and environmental advantages provided by the Navarra Canal with the aim of being able to transfer this success story to their respective territories at a later date. #InvestInNavarra 📲💻 [All details] 👇
