For most individuals, weekends offer a time to relax and recharge after the work week. ☀️ But if you're currently experiencing #burnout, weekends may not offer the same solace. In a recent SHRM survey, 44% of U.S. employees report feeling burned out and emotionally drained from work. This could look like: 🧑💻 Not being able to "mentally log off" 😓 Feeling too drained from the work week to spend time with loved ones 📆 The dreaded Sunday Scaries If this is something you relate to, make sure to check out our newest blog "Recognizing Burnout and What to Do About It" for tips on preventing and coping with burnout! https://lnkd.in/gBivVTnE

It makes me sad and angry to see these stats! 4 main reasons: 1. Most people don’t have a choice to move at work. Fixed height desks, big chairs and the need to work from screens locks them into it. People need to make money to live in an expensive world, in many cases forcing them to be sedentary. It’s a form of torture. Concepts like “get up and walk to get water” don’t work because productivity relies on flow states for most highly sedentary roles (and also drink bottles). If there is a barrier to movement and you’re in a flow state you are likely to just not move, even put up with pain, to get the thing done. How often have you almost burst your bladder staying in the zone to get something done. 2. Sitting still all day is a health hazard that we talk around because of how much the global economy needs computer work and generally people don’t know how to solve it. We deflect, accept or turn a blind eye to the health impacts in the short term at a company level (often at an individual level too) only to have the individual deal with them in the long term. Innovation has happened around the desk like step counters, gym memberships etc… but there needs to be more done with the personal workspace to allow movement and flow states to work together (when they do the brains work better). Currently it’s like eating maccas all day and a salad for dinner, it’s good but you’re still not moving at work. 3. Worrying about posture is wasted energy worrying about the wrong thing. Get angry about the lack of movement and the desk setup and work flows that stop you from moving. Postural positioning is not something I like talking about because its impact is minimal and it causes anxiety and fear about ‘sitting perfectly’ and feelings of our body being fragile. It’s not fragile. It needs movement. Lots of it. If you don’t use it you lose it. 4. Contextual factors like workload, relationships, sleep, hydration, mental health have a huge impact on neck pain and low back pain and don’t get enough air time. Together with a work set up that stops you moving, it creates the environment for pain to emerge. For a sense of the problem size: - back and neck pain are the number 1 cause of disability globally (and it’s increasing). - they are the main reason people retire early (in Australia) - low back pain is the most costly disease that we have data for, accounting for 25-30% of all direct healthcare costs (never mind the indirect costs) - back pain accounts for 3-5% of all primary healthcare appointments and - back pain is most prevalent in industrialised countries… with the highest increasing rates in countries undergoing industrialisation now. A few of my thoughts on this topic that I haven’t shared publicly before. It comes as a recent international study that shows people who sit at their desk for prolonged periods have a 16% higher risk of death from any cause, and a 34% higher risk of heart disease.

💔 A Heartbreaking Reality We Can’t Ignore 💔 Just recently, Anna Sebastian Perayil, a young professional working at a reputed MNC, tragically lost her life due to high work pressure. It’s a stark reminder of the toll that stress and poor work-life balance can take on our health. This hit even closer to home for me when I helped a 22-year-old client apply for term insurance. Despite his young age, his lifestyle—constant work, no sleep, unhealthy eating—had already taken a serious toll on his cardiovascular health. The result? The insurance company denied him coverage. This isn’t just a wake-up call—it’s a reality check. No job, no deadline, and no ambition are worth compromising your health. If you’re pushing yourself to the brink, it's time to pause, reassess, and prioritize your well-being. Takeaway: Your health is your greatest asset, and no career success is worth sacrificing it. 👉 How are you managing your work-life balance? Let’s share tips and experiences to ensure we’re thriving, not just surviving. 👇 #WorkLifeBalance #MentalHealthMatters #StressManagement #HealthOverHustle #Insurance #CareerGrowth #LifeInsurance

Happy Positive Thinking Day! A lot comes to mind for me personally when it comes to the power of positive thinking, but I want to take the time to highlight how interconnected positive thinking and mental and emotional wellbeing are. As employers, one of the best things you can do for your employees is encourage them to invest in themselves. Promoting a positive mindset in the workplace can boost staff morale and productivity. Creating a strategy that includes flexibility, access to support, and encouragement of passions can make a significant impact on employees' overall happiness. By organizing special events and initiatives, employers can strengthen team bonds and demonstrate that their employees' mental health is a priority. Of course, having their health covered with self-funded health insurance helps too. #PositiveThinkingDay #EmployeeWellbeing #WorkplaceHealth

In this article, Aflac Chairman and CEO Dan Amos shares the story of a friend who delayed going to the doctor and how important it is to get your checkup. It can save your life. Bullies and toxic people rarely care about others and usually do not change. Because changing requires admitting they are the problem. Things were so bad with one bully (let’s call him Tom) that I spent months going to my car in the parking deck to cry at lunch. If you read my profile, you know I’m like a Vulcan. Meaning I’m typically not emotional at all, so I knew I definitely needed to get the heck out of there. I left without a back-up plan. I found out that Tom had caused several others to leave too, but HR couldn’t do a thing since clients and management loved the guy. Around 12 people quit in less than a year in that department. Not because of Tom, but clearly not a good situation. It took a while to find myself again, but I gained my confidence back. If you’re in a similar situation, how do you get past it? Here are some things that can help… 1️⃣ Work on your exit plan and lean on your network. Once I stepped away and got perspective, I could see that I wasn’t the problem. The toxic manager was. And I took my time looking for the right fit that offered psychological safety. 2️⃣ Diversify your income so that you’re not totally dependent on a job. I’ve mainly done mystery shopping and reselling over the past 24 years. But there are so many other options. Also check out Hanna Larssen’s courses on personal branding and building something of your own. 3️⃣ Surround yourself with good people who actually care about you and your well-being. I have made some good friends being active on Linked In and sharing my experiences. I wish I had done it sooner. 4️⃣ Report the bully/toxic person if you feel safe to do that. I went to HR, but they couldn’t do anything about Tom. In another situation a few years later though, I spoke up, requested a new manager and actually got one. 5️⃣ Do not suffer in silence. Talk to someone you trust and even consider therapy. That’s sometimes covered by insurance. Lauren Howard on here also offers support group sessions at $20 each through her company, LBee Health. Her company specializes in recovery from burnout, toxic work environments, and trauma. I have had too many bullies at work. But I’m still here and standing tall. You do not have to let a bully ruin your life. _____________ ♻️ Repost to share with others and spread this message. ➕ If this post resonated with you, please follow me for more.

2moAfter losing patient information you got some work to do. This happens, however for a company like yours, that’s extremely unacceptable and requires effort and repair. Post all the articles you want, but cerebral screwed their clients for little consequence.
