💷 ⬇ ⚡✅ Cheaper ‘Plunge Pricing’ arrives on public EV charging This is one we’ve been very excited to bring to life: combining public EV charging with energy market flexibility to bring cheaper charging to drivers. Plus in doing so, create a stronger consumer link between charger pricing and the energy grid that powers them. The very first Plunge Price event was fascinating: it was a 40% discount. But for ‘just’ two operators (both destination charging rather than on-street), and for two hours from 10pm-12am. I.e. required some driving effort at an unusual time of day in order to benefit. Yet, we saw a 490% uplift in charging sessions during that first event compared to normal activity, and increases of similar scale have continued in subsequent sessions. A cool example of how charging behaviour can be shifted to the benefit of all. These events have been first steps: recent Plunge Price events have included more CPO operators, and at different times of day. We’ll be working to open public charging up to a wider variety of market and grid signals so we can increase the regularity of driver savings https://lnkd.in/es-e7bbZ https://lnkd.in/eERUrf2J Octopus Electroverse Taichi Hobbs (Matsumoto) Kori Noonan

🌐In 2023, global EV charging markets saw a 46% increase in installed charge points, with a 58% growth in faster DC charging. Government legislation and funding remains a key driver and last year, we got an insight into where some of this early-stage funding is headed. 📈Looking ahead to 2024, all eyes are on charger reliability and uptime. With a growing number of retail partnerships with CPOs, reputations can make the difference in securing a deal. Rho Motion recently hosted a webinar discussing our expectations for 2024 across the EV (William Roberts), BESS (Iola Hughes), battery recycling (Mina Ha) and EV charging markets. If you missed it but would like to catch up on the webinar you can request the recordings here: https://bit.ly/497HbT6 #EVBattery #EVCharging #BatteryRecycling #EnergyStorage #Battery #rhomotion

Promoting technologies in power sector that help deliver reliable, sustainable and affordable electricity | Ex Siemens | Ex Alstom | Ex Schneider | Ex Secure Meters l PEC Chandigarh | IIMC
How has the EV adaption roadmap looked like in one of the better progressed markets, what has worked well, what has not worked so well and what could be way forward, even some generic observations which can give important learnings Some key points are 1. One positive has been a largely hydro dominated grid (very stable and flexible), so basically you need a stable grid, or it has to work in a grid friendly way!! 2. A challenge has been fragmented business landscape of charging infra companies driven by ad hoc approach, so beyond an initial period, find common synergies that can help both in profitability and better customer service. 3. Price premiums at public charging stations, rates 3-4 times as at home, on the go stations will continue to have extremely good ratio of power demand vs profit pool (21% of power demand and 45% profit pool!!), retail pricing plays an important role 4. Segmentation within charging infra and customers and how emerging value delivery propositions look like for each, so segmentation and value propositions need to be looked closely Basically, it needs to be looked at in three parts, one, how different charging possibilities e.g. home, on the go and destination, impact grid (connectivity and operational framework), two, how should each make a feasible business model ( who are best placed to put this, rates, infrastructure investment, by whom, how it can be optimized, what are synergies to be leveraged), and third, customer segmentation and what would be value propositions for each (customer profiling, critical needs, how can you make experience better e.g.). #electricvehicle #EV #charginginfrastructure #grid #decarbonization #transportation #electrification
