The US Open is serving up more than just world-class tennis this year. It's also showcasing how innovative technologies and F&B offerings are transforming the fan experience. American Express, a long-time partner of the (USTA) United States Tennis Association, is a prime example of how brands are stepping up to the challenge with the "US Open American Express Fan Experience," which include: •Interactive fan zones: Creating engaging spaces for fans to interact with the brand and the sport •Contactless payments: Making transactions faster and more convenient for fans •Exclusive lounges: Providing premium experiences for Card Members •Unique culinary experiences: Offering a tennis-themed ice cream flavor and elevated cuisine in the Centurion Lounge These novel initiatives highlight how venues, sponsors and event organizers are finding new ways to delight fans and keep them coming back for more. #Innovation #SportsTech #CustomerExperience #BrandActivation #EventMarketing #GetListoio https://lnkd.in/gJuEJe9n

Want to see spectacular and attacking players at every rally? Come to see an UTS event! That’s the main takeaway that we had at our latest event in Frankfurt. At every UTS event, I’m seeing a fascinating shift. Players are now mastering the unique format of UTS, with quarters and fast pace-rules, they’re doing something remarkable – they’re taking calculated risks and playing more aggressive tennis, but with precision. It’s no longer just about reacting; it’s about controlling the match and knowing exactly when to strike. The bonus card system, for example, has become a strategic weapon. Players like Frankfurt winner, Ben Shelton are no longer hesitant to go for it, unleashing powerful serves at the perfect moment, knowing full well the reward is worth the risk. What’s truly exciting is that this level of boldness is paying off. The aggressive play we’ve seen isn’t reckless, it’s intentional, and it’s shaping the dynamic nature of UTS. What’s even more thrilling? The format encourages this style of play. When you have less time between points, fewer opportunities to reset, and more rallies, you’re forced to stay sharp, both physically and mentally. This is what UTS is all about – fast-paced, high-stakes tennis that rewards those who dare to push the boundaries of their game. The third stage of this 2024 Race showed us just how well players are adapting. They’re learning to thrive in this environment, and it’s leading to some of the most intense, exciting tennis I’ve ever seen. Can’t wait to be in London – December 6 to 8th – with the best players in the world able to play at this incredible pace. My full take on this event is in my interview with Tennis Majors, in the first comment. #UTS #UTSTour UTS Tour #PatrickMouratoglou #tennis #sports

The US Open Tennis Championships are rounding out an impressive tournament, as game play finishes up this week. The (USTA) United States Tennis Association is utilizing 1080p for all courts as well as the compliment of HDR on the five show courts in the Bille Jean King National Tennis Center. This comes along with an increased presence of rights holders on site, allowing for a more comprehensive production set up. One of these new tricks is a broadcast platform constructed on the top of Arthur Ashe stadium allowing for a Birdseye view of the entire venue. Overall, the biggest technological advancement is the use of 1080p HDR for the world feed. Creating this shift was a team effort involving NEP Group, Inc., EMG, Gravity Media, and ESPN. Luckily, most of the cameras on site were already HDR compatible, allowing for a simple button switch to alter the quality. As far as cameras go, the USTA added more robotics cameras to their arsenal, to capture the player arrival areas and locker corridors, creating a more intimate feel. This is also so that rights holders can use this footage for various other outlets such as Netflix’s “Break Point”. “Something that’s unique about tennis coverage is it’s an all-year sport so many of the vendors become teammates working on this sport all year across the different venues. We all know each other and it’s about coming together and creating an awesome event with awesome coverage. But for me it’s a constant learning curve as we have new challenges that only make us better on the operations side.” - Dayna Navatta, USTA, Director, Broadcast Veritone | THUMBWAR 🎾 : https://lnkd.in/gXX765aG

Let’s take a look at the arena Arenas can host a wider variety of events, unlike stadiums. Generally, arenas have fixed seats and can accommodate anywhere from a few hundred people to more than 30,000 people. Most professional sports arenas seat between 12,000 and 22,000 people. A key element of the arena was that there were no pillars supporting the roof above the entire field. Other methods had to be found to support the roof or even add the weight of a score screen. The arena can host sporting events, concerts, circuses, conferences and many other events. Some arenas can host events for more than 200 days a year, and the revenue possibilities are much greater than those of some single-purpose stadiums. The arena's playing surface can be paved with ice for ice hockey or skating events. Just like the recent example of Wukesong Stadium switching from a basketball venue to an ice hockey venue. #professionalsportsarenas #kashinturf #turfmachine #sportsfield

3 fixture insights you'll thank us for at the end of October. Do not plan autumn's live sport in your venue until you've cracked through this 👇 📈 𝐑𝐮𝐠𝐛𝐲 𝐈𝐧 𝐑𝐮𝐝𝐞 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 After South Africa v New Zealand emerged as the most searched-for-fixture in August, their September rematch proved it was no fluke, coming in second for last month. This trend bodes very well for TNT Sports venues as the Autumn Nations Series rolls back into town. For all the doom and gloom that often surrounds it, international rugby union has never been in a better place, with the last few years producing incredible matches, iconic moments and some positively hissing rivalries. Argentina, England, France, Ireland, New Zealand and South Africa are impossible to split right now - factor in a capricious Scotland side plus a resurgent Italy and we have an abundance of the tight, ferocious, competitive fixtures that pack out pubs coming up. England v New Zealand kicks off a month of action on the 2nd November, now’s the time to get your plans in place, start talking to customers about it and get those crucial pre-bookings in. 👊 𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐥𝐨 𝐀𝐥𝐯𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐳 - 𝐀 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐁𝐞𝐭 A theme we talked about in last month’s UK analysis was the consistency with which big US boxing bouts emerge as the biggest missed opportunities. That trend continued in September with Canelo Alvarez’s latest bout driving significant value for the 7 venues who purchased and advertised it on FANZO. Digging deeper (as far back as our detailed fixture data goes), the Mexican great’s last 5 fights each averaged just shy of 2000 searches for a local venue on FANZO, being funnelled into fewer than 10 UK bars showing them. Yes, they’re late-night fights. Yes, there’s a PPV cost. But if you already have the means to stay open, no other name in sport offers such consistent value in terms of fan interest for the venues that do show Canelo’s bouts. 🇦🇺 𝐀𝐮𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐞 𝐎𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 If the AFL Grand Final popping up second in our missed opportunities piqued your interest, the wider top ten should make fascinating reading. 6 of the 10 biggest opportunities for UK venues were AFL (Aussie Rules) or NRL (Rugby League) fixtures as Australia’s two biggest winter codes reach a crescendo each September. Bloody good insight but not something pubs can act on for another 11 months now, surely? Not so fast. This weekend’s NRL Grand Final offers one last opportunity to tap into any local ex-pat communities and generate some bonus trade on Saturday morning. And if you’re a venue attached to a hostel in a tourist hotspot, it’s got ‘free shot at the posts’ written all over it. --- Want a deeper dive into September's fixture data? Make sure you follow Pete Starr, he'll be posting some punchy analysis on the stories that emerged from this data set complete with practical implications for running sport in your venue, in the coming weeks.
