Sweden’s Gaia Biomaterials secures $5 million for global expansion of eco-friendly products GAIA BioMaterials AB, a Helsingborg-based company focused on sustainable solutions, recently completed a $5 million rights issue. This funding round was supported by Almi Invest Greentech, a Swedish state-owned greentech venture capital fund, as well as private investors from both international and domestic markets. Gaia Biomaterials is known for its innovative product, Biodolomer, which is made from limestone and is fully compostable. This material serves as an eco-friendly alternative to fossil-based plastics, with applications ranging from drinking cups to grocery bags. The company plans to use the funds to expand its market presence in key regions such as the United States and India. Congratulations to erthos for closing an $11.2 million Series A round of funding! 👏👏👏 The biomaterials startup was a 2022 Extreme Tech Challenge Global Finalist and Female Founder award winner. From the Forbes article announcing the funding round: "erthos’ proprietary plant-based resin acts as a one-to-one substitute for traditional plastic and can be used in manufacturing the everyday products we have come to depend on – minus the harmful side effects.” Co-founders Nuha Siddiqui and Kritika Tyagi, who started erthos while in college at the University of Toronto, also made the Forbes 30 Under 30 list. At the same they closed this round of funding, erthos announced they received compostable certifications that validate its biomaterials for commercial-scale injection molding across 15 unique industry applications. Greyparrot and Bollegraaf and Lubo Recycling Solutions are combining forces to accelerate the digitization of the recycling sector using AI! The strategic partnership between the London-based AI-powered waste management company and the world’s largest builder of recycling facilities includes a $12.8M investment – both a cash investment (non-controlling stake) and the transfer of Bollegraaf’s AI vision business and team to Greyparrot. The two companies will now work together to retrofit thousands of Materials Recovery Facilities and Plastics Recovery Facilities with advanced AI capabilities and develop new “smart” plants.
