📣 Our new State of Global Policy Report is out! We are pleased to share that the #alternativeproteins sector enjoyed game-changing developments and commitments from governments and regulators in 2023, as the public sector across geographies stepped up to the alternative proteins funding plate! 🌍 Altogether, GFI estimates that newly announced global public funding for alternative proteins in 2023 amounted to $523 million, while the all-time investment totals to $1.67 billion. As the report indicates - governments play a critical role in unlocking the full climate and economic benefits of alternative protein in the years to come. 📈 Within Israel specifically, the public sector is a leader in driving regulatory frameworks for alternative proteins, notably with regulator’s approval of Remilk's fermentation-based dairy protein and the world’s first regulatory approval of a cultivated beef product by Aleph Farms. 🏆 Unique to this year’s policy report is a “Policy Menu,” delineating the various policy mechanisms that countries can implement to support alternative proteins. From research grants to loans to tax rates, there is a vast toolkit that policymakers can employ to drive this critical sector forward to create a more #sustainable global food system. Download and dive into the report here: https://lnkd.in/dqQ3ab-E Stay tuned for our upcoming webinar recording highlighting the key takeaways from the report. #publicpolicy #regulation #climatechange #foodtech #foodsystems #sustainableprotein #fermentation #cultivatedbeef

🇬🇧 The UK government has pledged to invest £12 million (~$15 million) into Imperial College London's Microbial Food Hub, a research hub for fermentation-based foods 👏 👏 "Fermentation has been used in food production for thousands of years, and precision fermentation has already been used for decades," notes Good Food Institute Europe's UK policy manager Linus Pardoe. "Its use in #alternativeproteins is still at an early stage, but initial research suggests that nearly 79% of consumers are willing to try cheese made using precision fermentation while focus group research has found that consumers in countries including the UK are interested in the expanded choice it can offer them." Public government investment such as this is critical to scaling the industry and addressing infrastructure shortages currently facing the #fermentation industry — especially, the lack of food-specific fermentation facilities. 👉 You are invited to participate in a consumer research exchange featuring work from fellows across Europe, aimed at enhancing our fellows' studies within a supportive environment. Join the next Seminar Series session on October 3rd, featuring the presentation of Inna Čábelková “The public acceptance of insect proteins”. Abstract: The consumption of insects as a protein-rich dietary option has sparked considerable interest due to its potential to address the growing challenges of global food security and environmental sustainability. However, the success and integration of insect proteins into mainstream diets hinge not only on their nutritional merits but also on public acceptance. Understanding the factors influencing the acceptance or resistance toward insect proteins is crucial for shaping future food choices and fostering sustainable practices. This study aims to evaluate the determinants influencing the acceptance of insect proteins, specifically examining the influences of food disgust, food neophobia, food choice motives, and environmental concerns. Additionally, the research investigates variations in responses to mealworms in different contexts—whether encountered in a general setting, being handed directly, or presented as a food item (on a plate or in the mouth). Seminar Series will occur every two weeks from 12:05 to 12:50 PM (CET). 👉 Join the session by the https://lnkd.in/gREh98DW See you there!
