Did you happen to catch Shawn Gorman '84 on the Today Show recently? Read more about Shawn's time speaking with Al Roker, and watch the interview, in Shawn's post below!
I had the honor of spending an afternoon on the woodsy trails of NYC’s Central Park with Al Roker from the TODAY Show. I always get energy from talking about L.L.Bean’s history, values and Purpose – but there was something extra special about having this conversation while enjoying the restorative power of being outside in one of the world’s largest cities. Many thanks to Al and the TODAY Show team for helping us share the story of L.L.Bean’s outdoors heritage, commitment to high quality products and world-class service. My great-grandfather L.L. would be proud. https://lnkd.in/gg_HbUe5

Unlock The Extraordinary ~ Hawai’i’s #1 Keynote Speaker ~Executive Coach ~ Best-Selling Author ~ Award-Winning Filmmaker ~ Lifelong Learner ~
Sarah and I arrived at the hotel. I am giving a keynote address on the success principles that empower individuals and organizations to take their journey from great to extraordinary. The staff at the Westin blew us away with their hospitality and aloha. They gave us our keys and sent us on our way. It took us a minute to find the room and when we did, it was marvelous! They gave us the presidential penthouse suite. (Here’s a little tour...) As a guy who studies the common traits of extraordinary behavior and achievement, one of the traits I admire most is the joy of living between simplicity and extravagance. As many of you know I started my journey living in a Volkswagen Bus, eating food off my Coleman stove and now living in a tiny home on an organic farm. It is incredibly fulfilling bouncing between these two realities. Having spent time with some of the most successful and wealthy people on this planet, those that can afford and buy all the luxuries one can imagine, I have seen first hand how happy they are with nothing. I know, you’re probably saying, “That’s easy for them, they have everything.” But I can assure that they didn’t always have everything. In fact, many of the truly great visionaries, pioneers and leaders of industry, came from nothing, so they had nothing to lose. They began their journeys from humble beginnings. I have always believed if one can be grateful with little they can be rewarded with a lot. Besides, life is fickle and we never know what’s around the next corner. So appreciate what you have and always make the best of where you are. Today we’re balling in our suite and in a couple of days, we’ll be back at the farm and I’ll be helping Sarah gather cow poop in buckets to fertilize the garden. Somedays “You're the shit!” and others “You are in the shit!” The big question is: Can you enjoy it all? -- #keynotespeaker #westin #marriott #hospitality #personaldevelopment #successprinciples #ericsaperston

This photo doesn’t do the last few days justice. Conferences(Assemble Holidays would be a more appropriate name) often seem to come at a time when you don’t want to be away from your desk etc. BUT wowee was it great to let the hair down over the last few days, get to know people from our sister businesses better and to get the “good oil” from some of the best in the business about what’s helped them be successful in business and to build successful businesses. The common denominators were the importance of hiring good people, with shared values, who will add to an already great culture, be kind and to provide opportunity. Look forward to the next one.
This week the team at Assemble had the opportunity to escape to Waiheke Island for a couple of days to celebrate our achievements from 2023. During our time on the island, we not only enjoyed the company of our two sister companies BrightSpark.io & CoLegal, but we also took the chance to strengthen our bond as a team. Amidst the beautiful wineries and having some fun on the jet skis, we also made sure to carve out moments for reflection on the past year's accomplishments, share ideas around how we can better service the industries we recruit for and to prepare ourselves for the year ahead. It’s been a great opportunity to recharge, reconnect, and realign our focus as a team. We return eager to tackle another big year ahead in recruitment! Reflecting on the power of organization today, my thoughts went to my 3rd youngest son, Brian. He brings to life the quote, "For every minute spent organizing, an hour is earned." - Benjamin Franklin. Brian's talent for organizing not only his tasks, but his surroundings too, is a lesson in the importance of preparation and order. His ability to tackle any project with a clear, organized approach has taught me that being organized is not just about saving time; it's about making room for excellence in execution. Brian's example is a constant reminder that the best way to accomplish anything is to first get organized.
Todd Michael Blinn, our President, hosted a delightful year-end party, and I was honored with the "Owner at Heart" award by our General Manager, Matthew Geyer. A big Thank You to Pacific Bath for fostering a positive work environment where giving it my all everyday never goes unnoticed.

I joined Greenough Communications just over a year ago with the support of an amazingly talented leadership team of Christine Williamson, Jen Heady, Jessika Parry, and Kenneth Craig – and newly added, but I can’t imagine us without her – Nicole Murphy, and a vision. Together, we will make it a reality. I’m incredibly grateful - and honored - to follow in the footsteps of Phil Greenough. Over the last 25 years, he founded and led Greenough through several incredible inflection points across the #technology, #healthcare, and #energy industries and provided us with a proven playbook to tackle the ones yet to come. From Fortune 500 companies to the many startups, he was there penning new narratives and disrupting markets. His mark on the communications field and this agency is undeniable, and I look forward to continuing his legacy. What’s next is still unwritten, but what I do know is we will: ➡ Have fun defining the “new rules” for agencies to live by. As Eleanor Hawkins recently said, the “challenger firms” will be the ones that have senior leaders who walk side-by-side with their clients, deliver the strategy, and generate the results vs. relying on those who are just cutting their teeth in the field. That model is broken. We are an agency of experienced, creative practitioners who love what we do and still get a high while doing it. We are the challenger firm she speaks of, and we are rising. https://lnkd.in/eiUDJNbq ➡ Hone in on our “Zones of Genius.” Our Guest Lecture series, featuring industry experts sharing insights on their journey, innovative tools, and lessons from their experiences, remains a cornerstone. Additionally, our quarterly one-on-one trainings go beyond mere support; they're about uplifting each other to ensure our clients are receiving the best work and have our best minds working together to deliver that work. It's not just about being on the team; it's a mindset that consistently revolves around our clients, focusing on how we can continuously enhance and deliver exceptional results. ➡ Be present. This remote world can be distracting, and it can feel monotonous. But collectively, we will be keeping each other focused and present. Present as trends start bubbling up to the surface, at industry events and client summits, in the ever-changing world and all its teachings for us to be and operate at our best. Let’s do this, Greenough team!! And thank you, Jess Ruderman, for taking the time to meet with me and for this great piece in PRWeek! bit.ly/3StNsT4
After 25 years at the helm, our founder Phil Greenough is passing the leadership baton, naming Nikki Festa O'Brien as our new CEO! Since day 1 at Greenough, Nikki has pushed our team to deliver results, provided best-in-class service to our clients, and expanded Greenough's client roster. We could not be more excited to celebrate our 25th year anniversary with these new developments, grounded in our continued mission to create moments that matter. https://lnkd.in/eXQRahDn
