The 1000 NSW Public Sector Apprentices and Trainees Program is a NSW Government commitment to employ an additional 1000 apprentices and trainees across NSW Government agencies and State Owned Corporations. Round Two applications for jobseekers will open in September 2024. In Australia the total number of those in construction apprenticeships and in-training has dropped 27,000 since 2023. This is a sector which already had a huge shortage. I don't think this can be put down to one thing - but I do know that some apprentice wages are seriously low. This will be be an unpopular opinion with some, as an apprenticeship is something the employee will end up making hundreds of thousands out of in the long-term. Plus you can only get so much out of a first or second year apprentice in some areas. I know from my time on construction sites in Australia that many in unskilled and semi-skilled jobs were happy with the wage they were getting, so weren't interested in upskilling through an apprenticeship. Incentive payments and grants are being considered to woo the young into the trades. #australianconstruction #movetoaustralia

The Jobs and Skills Australia 2025 Occupation Shortage List (OSL) Stakeholder Survey is now open until 5pm (AEDT) Friday 7 March 2025 and you’re invited to contribute. For stakeholders with an interest in apprenticeships, the OSL informs the Australian Apprenticeships Priority List (AAPL) (https://lnkd.in/gnJccS8F) which is used as part of the Australian Apprenticeships Incentives System to determine which employers and apprentices are eligible for financial incentives. OCS to Expand Apprenticeship Placements Facilities management provider OCS plans to offer apprenticeship pathways across each of its service lines to nurture future talent and support career progression. The company has committed to increasing its number of apprenticeship placements in the UK and Ireland to over 1,000 within the next 12 months. This initiative aligns with its growth ambitions and includes substantial investments in its funded learning programme. With the recent announcement of its vision to optimise people and places as part of its brand strategy, this move underscores OCS’s dedication to social mobility and impact. It aims to drive social value initiatives, such as apprenticeship schemes and funded learning, to enhance sustainable employment by offering empowering careers and embracing diversity. OCS reports a 140 per cent increase in the uptake of its apprenticeships over the past year and aims to maintain this growth by providing opportunities in each of its service lines: facilities management, security, pest control, cleaning, catering and hospitality, and hard services. Ipswich-based OCS currently offers 12 professional pathways and 39 programmes to support its business units. In addition to service lines, these opportunities include management and leadership, coaching and mentoring, and customer service and sales.
