I've recently switched to using aluminium composite panels (ACP) for all my paintings, and I highly recommend it to other artists. Why? They provide an amazing surface for oil paintings. Unlike traditional canvases or wooden panels, ACPs don't react to changes in the environment, which means they stay stable and last a long time. The aluminium base doesn't release gases or warp with humidity and temperature changes, keeping the artwork in top condition. The Old Masters used copper for its durability and smooth surface, but it was a hassle to prepare and had to be painted on before it oxidised. Aluminium is lighter, resists oxidation, and has a neutral colour that's great to paint over. ACPs are light and rigid, making them easier to transport worldwide. The smooth, flat surface gives you excellent precision and control while painting. Here's one of my first paintings done on ACP (Oil on ACP, 57.7cm x 39.0cm):

Great work, Gideon! Really impressive artwork! If you need to find ACPs going cheap (if not free and in excellent large sizes) for future projects, there are lots of buildings around the place (particularly in Sydney) that are removing the now non-compliant ACPs and replacing them with straight aluminium panels. 😁

Hi Gideon! I'm so impressed by all your talents and creativity and it's quite prophetic for the times on our doorstep. Remember when you shared your artwork with us all on one of our Google meets during Covid? I'll never forget that and still think of it to this day! Love all your talents and hope you are well ☺
