On this Truth and Reconciliation Day, The Beer Store pauses to reflect, honour, and recognize the Indigenous peoples of Canada. It's a day for collective action and deeper understanding. As we acknowledge the past and ongoing injustices faced by Indigenous peoples, we remain committed to playing our part in the path towards healing and reconciliation.
Responding to Call to Action 92:
In alignment with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Call to Action 92, we are actively working to create equitable employment, training, and educational opportunities for Canada’s Indigenous communities. We understand the significant role that businesses like ours play in fostering equality, inclusion, and lasting change.
Speaker Panels:
We host speaker panels that spotlight Indigenous voices, throughout the year. These platforms are aimed at educating us all about the rich histories, cultures, and wisdom of the Indigenous communities, including details about treaties and the true history of Canada's Indigenous peoples.
Resources and Education:
In collaboration with our BIPOC Employee Resource Group (ERG), we have curated resources that focus on the NTRC Truth and Reconciliation Week’s lunch and learn series. Our comprehensive resource page also encourages our team to delve into Indigenous ways of knowing through documentaries, books, podcasts, and local events.
Walk for Wenjack:
We have proudly partnered once again with the @Downie Wenjack Fund. Our employees will actively be participating in the Walk for Wenjack throughout October. We will also be collecting donations from October 16-29th across our 420+ retail locations to support this essential cause.
Do Something:
We strongly encourage all our employees and fellow Canadians to honour Truth and Reconciliation Day by taking the call to "Do Something." Whether it’s reading a book, attending an event, or listening to a podcast, every action counts.
The journey towards reconciliation is a long one, and while we are committed to being part of the solution, we also recognize that there's much more to be done.
Thank you for being part of this meaningful journey. Together, let’s build a future that honours the truth and fosters reconciliation.
