Research from the Boston Consulting Group indicates that approximately one-third of the world’s private wealth is now held by women. Moreover, the Centre of Economic and Business Research projects that by 2025, 60% of the UK’s wealth will be controlled by women. This transition reflects a broader trend of escalating economic empowerment among women, with the proportion of ultra-wealthy women globally rising to 10.9% in 2022, up from 6.5% in 2016 - https://lnkd.in/dP_S5A4f

As we celebrate International Women’s Day and this year’s theme, #InspireInclusion #CountHerIn #InvestInWomen #AccelerateProgress, it’s a time to reflect on how we can create more diverse, equitable, and inclusive businesses. ABGF will celebrate International Women’s Day not through cupcakes and discussing quotas, but through continuing to advocate for more diversity and meaningful action within the investment community. We have a responsibility to use our platform for change, and we take this responsibility seriously. Women, everywhere, in every sector deserve more than just a day to have this conversation and be told things will change. This is our work now and every day, until we reach gender equity. This year, we would like to share stories from a female founder over-coming barriers to funding, and our co-head of investment addressing the unconscious bias. Feeling proud to have been part of the UN Women UK Delegation at #CSW68. Two key insights for me were: 🌟Feeling inspired about the opportunities to share learning from economies, such as the Nordic States, to create systems, policies and mindsets needed to address the gender pay gap. It was encouraging to hear that Iceland had reduced their gender pay gap from 20% (2008) to 9% (2022) through five targeted actions. There is a huge opportunity for other countries to learn from what has been achieved. 🌟With only 3p in every pound of VC investment going to female founded businesses, we need to find ways to level the playing field (this statistic was such a shocker for me!). The discussions on the barriers and assumptions for investing in female founded businesses resonated with what I have learnt having been actively involved in supporting the progression of female talent within organizations. So, providing access to mentoring and sponsorship; tackling systemic bias; and education of angel investors are some of the crucial and important aspects to tackle. So… if you are passionate about supporting gender equity and want to have an impact, here are three ideas for things you could do which could make a BIG difference: ✨Mentorship and sponsorship of women continues to be crucial. Find ways to make introductions, share insights or open up opportunities to connect women to key people in your network. ✨ With only 3p of every pound of VC investment going to female founded businesses, there is much work to be done to level things up. So find ways to financially invest in women and their businesses. It could be as simple as choosing to buy from a female owned business, or giving your time to listen to a pitch/ business proposal from a female business owner so that they can benefit from your experience and insight. ✨Talk to the men in your network about why this topic matters. Find ways to engage them on a “hearts” as well as “minds” basis. Creating meaningful engagement with men and boys is increasingly recognised as critical. It is more likely to transform the social and gender norms that reinforce inequity and which harm both women and men. So….what is the smallest first step you will take which could have the BIGGEST impact…? #investinwomen #genderequity #csw68
