Reflections from the Reset Connect event yesterday: 🌍 'Saving the planet' is not about the planet, its about people - people need nature, nature will be just fine without people. 💯 Everyone is talking about data: data is essential - baseline data, monitoring data, how to standardise data to demonstrate impacts of investments in nature but also: its nature, its complex, the data will always be imperfect, we have to get comfortable to take action based on data we know is imperfect, learn by doing, fail fast and carry on. And (my own opinion) its nature - you can see and hear if it's happy. And also - who should 'own' the data? 🌺 ESG vs impact: ESG offers a framework to help companies measure their negative impacts on nature but that isn't the end point. Investing in activity that drives positive impact for people and nature is the critical next step - communicate about that. 🌳 Greenwashing vs greenhushing: companies are now dammed if they take action to help protect or restore nature, accused of just trying to cover up their bad behaviour, so they don't talk about their nature-focussed activity, or take fewer risks and critical funding gets lost or just dries up completely. 💰 Investing in nature is all about managing risk: existing financial mechanisms which the market already understands - like bonds - are the best way to scale quickly. But also (my opinion) partner with organisations that have integrity and already have a track record of doing the doing, to help manage the risk. 🌾 Regenerative agriculture is the revolution we need to drive systems change which can result in nature positive outcomes in food production, one of the most environmentally destructive industries on our planet. Its happening slowly, everyone needs to get on board. I was particularly inspired by Richard Manley Axelle Ducos Marguerite Delormel Mahima Sukhdev Ben Constable Maxwell - thank you for the work you are doing 🙏💚🌳🌳🌳 P.S if you're a company reading this and want to take some positive action for nature, get in touch - plenty of rainforest needs protecting right now, and at Sumatran Orangutan Society we've got tons of data showing where and why we support the communities and frontline work that we do....

Sounds super interesting. Do you think it would be beneficial for someone at Frank Water to attend next time?

Love “people need nature, nature will be just fine without people”. Wow! So true and have never viewed it like that before. I’m also fascinated by regenerative agriculture and its potential. Thanks for sharing
