Today is International Kangaroo Mother Care Awareness Day! This year's theme is #EmbraceTheMagic, and we see no better way of doing so than sharing the results of this randomised trial in The Lancet on the cost-effectiveness of KMC for preterm #newborns. The OMWaNA Trial is the largest randomised comparison of KMC given before stability in Africa, the first in lower-level hospitals, and the first to report on economic evaluation 💵. https://lnkd.in/eASbXRFu If you'd like to find out more about the importance of Kangaroo Mother Care in Small and Sick Newborn Care, please visit our page on The Newborn Toolkit website dedicated to the subject: https://lnkd.in/eCmHz8Q9

🌟 Medical Guarantees Program for Patients from the National Health Service of Ukraine Friends, we are excited to announce that, as part of the "Guaranteed" program, we are launching a series of posts about the medical guarantees available both for ordinary people and those with epilepsy and related conditions. We will explain in simple terms which medical services are available for free so that you can use from the necessary program. Today, we want to introduce you to the Medical Guarantees Program (MGP) and explain how it works. 💊 What is the Medical Guarantees Program (MGP) and packages of medical services? MGP is your guarantee of receiving necessary medical services, medications, and products paid for by the state from the State Budget. Packages of medical services are a list of state-guaranteed services that everyone can receive for free. These include various types of medical assistance, from emergency to rehabilitation. 🌐 Information about medical guarantees programs and all packages can be found in the patient guide from the National Health Service of Ukraine: https://cutt.ly/MwT15VOi 🗣 If you have questions about the medical guarantees program for people with epilepsy and related conditions, fill out the "Request Assistance" form on the EpiprosVita NGO website: https://lnkd.in/dY-uEurD The "Guaranteed!" initiative is implemented by the CF Patients of Ukraine charitable foundation in partnership with Ministry of health of Ukraine: https://lnkd.in/dt4eYAtC and Національна служба здоров'я України with the support of the USAID Ukraine: https://lnkd.in/dz-6TPTB Health Reform Support Project. #Epiprosvita #NSZU #Epilepsy #MedGuarantees #GuaranteedMGP #MGP #patient_rights

Every 5 minutes, someone dies from a lung condition in the UK. And yet there’s a lack of political will to fund the research that could save these lives. Today, the Lung Research and Innovation Group have set out 10 priorities the government needs to take seriously to fix the lung research pipeline and fix the nation’s lung health. If the government and other key stakeholders invest in the 10 respiratory research priorities outlined in this report, we will, address the largest driver of winter pressures in the NHS, make huge savings for the healthcare system, and serve the needs of the 12 million people in the UK who will develop a lung condition during their lifetime. The Lung Research and Innovation Group is a national group of patient advocacy charities, expert organisations and leading researchers determined to drive progress in respiratory research and innovation. #AirPollution is the number one health risk to humankind, with EPIC’s Air Quality Life Index (AQLI) showing that the burden of pollution on life expectancy outstrips that of malaria, HIV/AIDS and transportation injuries combined. While research shows that installing #AirQuality monitors and sharing real-time data with the public in places with very little or no data leads to cleaner air, nearly 40% of countries—many of which satellite data shows are highly polluted—aren’t producing open air quality data for their citizens. Through a $1.5M gift from Open Philanthropy, the EPIC Air Quality Fund will support local groups and organizations in installing monitors and providing open data to communities that could benefit the most. On July 31 (6am ET | 12pm CET | 3:30pm IST), join EPIC’s Clean Air Program director Christa Hasenkopf and the EPIC Air Quality Fund project manager, Farah Kazi, for an introduction to the Fund and its application process. Listening to this podcast recorded with EndCoronavirus.org in May 2021 feels like stepping back into a crucial moment from the early pandemic. Listen here: https://lnkd.in/eY9QJm8Y It’s a stark reminder of how little has changed and how far we still need to go. Revisiting my perspectives from a period in time when vaccines were rolled out to adults, I’m reminded of the challenges and triumphs that Long Covid Kids has experienced—little details of the story I had almost forgotten amidst the ongoing battle. Long Covid Kids was born out of necessity and remains a vital force advocating for children and young people doubly affected by COVID-19. Our mission is to provide dedicated advocacy, resources, and support to improve their lives. Your support is crucial. By donating to Long Covid Kids, you help the team continue to our work, ensuring these children and young people receive the care and attention they deserve. Together, we can make a difference in their lives. Unlike some larger organisations, LCK does not receive funding from any regular source. Every donation truly makes a difference. By donating to Long Covid Kids, you help us continue our work, ensuring these children and young people receive the care and attention they deserve. Please consider donating today and join us in this important fight.. Donate Here: https://lnkd.in/enjqkUHw #LongCovidKids #SupportOurChildren #Advocacy #COVID19 #DonateNow #LongCovid

Celebrating National Public Health Week: A Preventive Medicine Perspective As we step into National Public Health Week, I am reminded of the incredible journey we are on as a community dedicated to health and well-being. As a preventive medicine physician, I am particularly excited to celebrate the strides we are making in understanding and promoting preventive health measures. Preventive medicine is at the heart of public health. It is about being proactive rather than reactive. It is about understanding the nuances of disease prevention, health promotion, and the broad impact of environmental factors on our health. This week, we celebrate the tireless efforts of public health professionals who dedicate their lives to preventing disease, prolonging life, and promoting health through organized efforts and informed choices of society, organizations, public and private communities, and individuals. Here are a few thoughts I'd love to share with my network on this important week: Prevention is Power: Emphasizing preventive health measures can significantly reduce the burden of chronic diseases and mitigate future healthcare challenges. Let's continue to advocate for regular health screenings, vaccinations, healthy lifestyle choices, and other preventive measures that can save lives. Collaboration is Key: The interplay between various healthcare disciplines is crucial for effective preventive medicine. It requires a collaborative approach, integrating expertise from various health professionals to create a holistic and impactful public health strategy. Education and Empowerment: Informing and empowering individuals and communities to take charge of their health is fundamental. Let's use this week to spread awareness about the importance of preventive health and encourage people to actively participate in their health journey. *****Innovation and Research: Advancements in medical research and technology are pivotal in enhancing our preventive measures. Let's celebrate the innovations that have brought us forward and support continued research in preventive medicine. As we observe National Public Health Week, let's recommit to a future where preventive health is a priority for all, reducing the global burden of disease and improving quality of life. I encourage my peers, colleagues, and friends to join in this observance, sharing knowledge, experiences, and insights that can propel us toward a healthier tomorrow. #PublicHealthWeek #PreventiveMedicine #HealthForAll #CommunityHealth #ACPM #PublicHealth #UNC
