Atlantic Union Bank is accepting applications between January 2, 2024 - February 1, 2024 (11:59 p.m.) for the second annual Future Community Impact Makers grant to support paid summer internships for students with low to moderate incomes. Summer internships provide exposure to different career possibilities, opportunities for foundational skill development, and the ability to start a professional network. Paid internships make these opportunities accessible to a wider pool of individuals. Applicant organizations must be community-based (nonprofits, government entities, community foundations, etc.) organizations that provide affordable housing, community services (i.e. food security and health services access), economic development, or financial education to low-to-moderate income community members. Grantees must commit to hosting under-graduate/certificate program and graduate level students in an 8-week, paid internship program. Each awardee will receive $4,000 in grant funds. Students must be hired as direct employees and organizations are responsible for employment taxes. All positions are expected to begin no later than June 14, 2024, and end no later than August 16, 2024. Awardees to be notified by February 15, 2024. Hi LinkedIn friends, colleagues, and connections, In just over four hours Seattle Pacific University's (SPU) annual Giving Day fundraising event begins! Starting at midnight, April 3rd, 2024, SPU launches our largest annual fundraising campaign with the addition of a donor incentive competition structure. The Center for Career and Calling (CCC) needs your help to reach our goal of $2,000 to support our student-centered services and programming designed to help our students prepare for their transition to the working world. If you, or someone you know, are willing to donate I urge you to review these donor challenge guidelines below to help increase the impact of your donation. This year there are many ways to play, so here is the insider scoop on the Donor Challenges. There are three main challenges that help SPU departments and programs, participating in Giving Day, get bonus rewards when you donate. 1. First and last donation of the day challenge: --- The department or program that receives the first and/or last donation of the day will receive an additional $100. ---- The first donation after the event commences at 12am PST tonight, April 3rd, 2024, will receive an additional $100 bonus. ---- The last donation of the day has to be received before the event closes at 11:59 PM PST, April 3rd, 2024 to receive the additional $100 bonus. 2. Top 3 most donors challenge: ---The top three programs or departments that receive the highest number of donors [not necessarily the most money] will win an extra: ---- $1,500 for 1st place ---- $1,000 for 2nd place ---- $500 for 3rd place 3. 10+ donor challenge: --- When our department reached 10 donors, it will unlock an additional $100. I am glad to be a participant in today's Day 3 of onThejob internship and Apprenticeship Program at RAD5 Tech Hub, sponsored by Google.org. This program is under the instrumentality of Abia state ministry of digital economy and SMEs. The aim of this program is to enlighten young people about the Tech world and how they can be fully be involved in it. Our present world lies in the hands of people who can identify and create solutions to different problems in the society. And it is the work of an Entrepreneur to identify and create business ideas which will be solutions to problems in our society. Who then can be an entrepreneur? Anyone. You can be an entrepreneur if you can identify and create business ideas, create solutions to different problems and scale through in the business industry. But you can't just wake up being one. You need to learn the steps to follow inorder to create business ideas, and factors to consider while creating one. And today in onThejob internship and Apprenticeship Program we were taught steps by steps on how to come up with business ideas, factors to consider before creating a business idea and how to scale through in the business industry. We were basically taught on how to be an Entrepreneur or an Intrapreneur. As the world is fast evolving into the Tech world, it's best you join the trend. Don't remain in the dark! 32 Pages has been our love letter to families in Singapore. A homage to the unpaid, underpaid and under-appreciated emotional work that have overwhelmingly fallen on mothers, caregivers and teachers. Holding space. Modelling behavior. Managing one's emotions to be present for a child. These are skilled work that go unrecognized but are important in keeping our children engaged in learning. A lack of such support exists in less resourced families ((And I mean less resourced in more than monetary terms)). In the process of building support, we've realized that the children we heal aren't just the ones of age but those that lie within adult facilitators - their inner child(ren). Great learning facilitators are born from those who have the support and self-awareness to be present for others. My co-founder Tamara Tan Ann’s story perfectly encapsulates the crux of our work. Building 32 Pages together alongside Tamara Tan Ann and Cheryl Lee has been a healing journey as former-children, educators and leaders. Today, 32 Pages is a volunteer-led organization. And while I am happy we are getting recognized for our commitment, I wonder about the value we place on emotional labor. Can such emotional work really be made up for by volunteers? Within the first few months of working on an MMC for housing the organisation PLACE (Pan-London Accommodation Collaborative Enterprise) held a session to look at how "meanwhile" sites could be used to generate a semi-temporary solution for those in immediate and dire needs of a home. it generated ideas of how using MMC deliverables the opportunity was there to have fast-built, pre-fabricated homes on brownfield or sites that had major developments planned but would be "on-hold" for the next 5 years. Ideas of a compulsory rental order could be applied to any developer that could be deemed to be land banking. Ways in which an MMC stockpile could be allocated and shared across local authorities to rent (at much less costs then the temporary accommodation "solution" of hotels (term used loosely), B&B's or private landlords that councils pay non-returning monies out to) and enable a quality and controlled housing supply. At a point the rental money would have paid the margins, and profits, on the MMC deliverables and the stockpile would be owned by a shared scheme of UK local authorities that could re-use the stock as required. In exploring this idea I touched base with a friend that worked with the homeless to really understand what those in need of "temporary" accommodation really went through (Justlife Foundation) and meeting staff that worked with the homeless day in and day out. The research was eye opening and then I really understood what the real housing crisis was about. Through Justlife Foundation I was introduced to Oasis Community Housing where their CEO David Smith took me to visits sites and the means that they use to help with the homeless on a more eye widening tour. Since that day I try to "do my bit" with some fund raising and the Oasis Community Housing have provided me with the amazing opportunity to run the Great North Run a few times. What an experience and such a welcoming city and people - Hazel Ditchburn MCIOF (Cert) and Joanne Armstrong (MCIOF). I saw this post from the Oasis Community Housing today and thought "what can my kids do to help" so have challenged them to find 4 friends each and undertake a "do as your parents say" day. If they successfully "obey" then at the end of that day they will be rewarded with £10. With all 10 completing the task that will raised the £100. It's not quite the £100 in 100 days but it can help. For all those in my network working for solutions to the housing crisis perhaps you can challenge yourselves, your family and friends to see what they can do to raise £100. I would be grateful to anyone who reads this to re-post in your network. I'll still keep plugging away on the ideas of how we in this industry can make that difference and I am sure one day we will. Till then any small amount of monies raised for charities like the Oasis Community Housing can go a long way to help. Many thanks.
