World Zoonoses Day: One World, One Health 🐒🌍 Have you ever heard of the #Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD), also known as monkey fever? KFD is a viral disease that can infect humans and monkeys. In the most severe cases, it can be fatal. KFD is one example of zoonotic diseases, also known as #zoonoses, infectious diseases that can be transmitted between animals and humans. This year’s #WorldZoonosesDay highlights the importance of preventing zoonotic diseases. Effective prevention measures require strong collaboration between forestry, animal health and human health experts, to make use of their respective sectoral knowledge, expertise and institutional mandates. Such a #OneHealth approach, which considers the interlinkages between the health of humans, animals and their shared environment, helps to tackle complex #health challenges. In North Goa, we are working with our partners to support policy makers and local communities to contain the spread of #KFD. How do we achieve this? 👇 🤝 Strengthening the cooperation between stakeholders from the forestry, animal and human health sectors in Goa in their efforts to prevent and fight the spread of KFD.   📑 Scientists and decision-makers work together to increase knowledge of the disease and develop appropriate standard operating procedures which clearly define responsibilities in the event of an outbreak. 💡 Awareness raising about protective measures to prevent contracting the disease. 👉 Read more about our project activities: https://lnkd.in/gGng-qQH Our joint efforts contribute to the protection of both human and animal health. At the same time, they promote the conservation of #biodiversity, which is one of the key focus areas of the Green and Sustainable Development Partnership (GSDP) between #India and #Germany.
